Full day at Mohonk Mountain House today, and did my legs get a workout. Beautiful weather. About 85 degrees with a nice cool breeze most of the day. We started out with an amazing breakfast buffet. Ate too much. Walked around the gardens and greenhouses here. Lots of unusual varieties.
At 11:15 we had a house tour. Interesting and lots of fun. The tour was given by a gentleman originally from Istanbul Turkey. From there he went to Paris, then to USA. Eventually he married into the Smiley family. The Smiley family (brothers Albert and Alfred) were the ones who bought the land for the resort in 1879, built it, ran it, and it is still owned by and run by the Smiley family today.
After the house tour, surprise it's lunch time. Now you all know me. I don't like to overeat.
A large lunch with a number of chef stations. After lunch, we decided to climb the mountain across the lake from the mountain house. It is a 1.1 mile round trip and elevates 300 feet. A reasonable path to the top, then lots of stairs to the top of the tower. They say you can see 6 states from the top on a clear day. It was beautiful today.
After the walk down, Cheryl decided we needed to take a paddleboat out on the lake. Did that for about 3/4 of an hour. Next some sitting on the porch looking at others on the lake.
Dinner was an outdoor buffet with a southern Caribbean slant. Not bad. Very few people there.
After dinner was time for relaxing...reading or writing blogs. Tomorrow, on to Greenville NY and a two day visit to Cheryl's friend Linda. Check in tomorrow.
