|Guten Tag from Germany,
Thursday was a great day. We thoroughly enjoyed exploring more of London.
We started out by visiting Borough Market. You have to love a flower shop in a market that has chandeliers (see pictures). It’s a very nice market with lots of vendors. We had a wonderful chat with an older gentleman who helps his daughter out at one of the booths. I think he was just bored and wanted someone to talk to but nevertheless we enjoyed talking with him.
Next we walked over London Bridge and made our way along the river to the Tower of London. There were tourists and school groups out and about but fortunately the lineups were very short or non-existent which was AWESOME!! We spent almost four hours exploring the fortress/palace/prison including the Crown Jewels exhibition.
After walking over Tower Bridge, we followed the path along the Thames River all the way back to Westminster Bridge. It was lovely! I’m so glad we added some time to our trip to explore London. We also have a couple of nights at the end of our tour. We’re staying in a different area when we get back so we’ll have new things to discover.
Also for those of you who were wondering...we found out what all of the fuss was about at Buckingham Palace on Wednesday. Prince Charles, Camilla, and Princess Anne hosted Queen Elizabeth's First Garden Party of the season.
Today was a travel day. It began at St. Pancras Station in London where we met our tour manager and after clearing French customs boarded a Eurostar train that took us through the Chunnel to France and then on to Belgium. In Brussels we switched trains and ended the days journey in Cologne,Germany. This is just an overnight stop. At the moment there are only 9 of us. When we get to Munich tomorrow, 24 Australians will be joining our tour. I’m pretty sure this will liven things up!!
Time to get some sleep. We have an early morning tomorrow.
