Italy, UK & Transatlantic Cruise 2019 travel blog

Today we took a bus to the Appian Way (Paul walked here). It was a lovely walk but a bit disappointing. It was mostly a paved walkway with green space on either side. The other option was to walked the cobblestone narrow street shared by cars. We walked past the Catacombs of St. Callixtus and San Sebastian. While the Basilica of San Sebastian was closed, they had a lovely area with tables and chairs. Since we brought our lunch we decided this was the perfect spot to eat. It was down a side street so it was private and quiet. Along our walk we saw many ruins and lesser known catacombs.

The bus back to town dropped us off at Piazza Venezia which is across the street from Victor Emanuel Monument. In the daylight we could see the Michelangelo staircase, which was almost a slope instead of stairs. We went to the top to Piazza Campidaglo, from here we could see all of Rome. On the way down we also saw the Marmitine Prison where St. Peter was imprisoned.

By the time we got home it was late so we ordered a pizza from down the street.
