Jan 17, 2020 - 16th & 17th January

Off to Valanca We plan to get the last ferry at 6pm today to Valenca. Our bus leaves at 10pm for a night trip to Porto Seguro. What really happened...... We paid for a late check out. We had breakfast then went to the right of the hotel as far as we could for a walk. Met an Argentinian young man who's working in a bar. We're the 1st English people he's seen there. Walk back a bit and see some deck chairs so we grab a couple and order a beer. We're a bit burned from yesterday so really don't want to add to it especially as we're on the bus...

10 January Today is walking day. We walked left out of our hotel. At the too of the road is a square. It has the church of St Antonio which we'd seen before, and a children's play area and there's a fort. First of all, they're washing the playground with soap and hose pipes and everything. Smells lovely! The fort was unexpected. It's free and we wander in. Currently it's used to train Bahian fighting which looks a bit like karate...? Or that's what we got from there. Everything's in Portuguese which is ok but we don't understand. In the...

Yesterday we walked into the old city centre which is where were staying. We needed to buy our catamaran tickets for Sunday to Morro de São Paulo. And post postcards. Walked and walked. We found the vernacular railway which takes you down yo the lower part of the city and the docks and Marina. We found the ticket office.......eventually. Then you've to choose which boat you want. That's chosen by times you choose to sail. We chose 10:30 am. It's a 2+ hour crossing and then we have to get a smaller boat to Gamboa beach which is where our...

Jan 8, 2020 - Off we go....

Travelling to Brazil on 6/01/20 with BA. Uneventful except when the FA served the drinks, we poured them, turbulence started. Guy ended up with a JD & coke over his trousers and the chap in the adjacent seat got out his bible, put on his little skull cap and started praying and crying. FA brought us Mor drinks although I'd put my hand over mine so I didn't lose too much. Arrived in Rio at around 8pm Brazilian time. Problem was, our onward flight to Salvador isn't until 6am next morning. And the airport seats where we'd thought we'd have a...

Nov 12, 2019 - Salvador da Bahia

We made our way southward from the Amazon to the city of Salvador da Bahia. It was once the capital of Brazil and the center of the slave trade; its population is heavily African. We had a walking tour that took us by the market then on an elevator ride to the upper city. We toured the old part that is filled with renovated shops and old churches. Michael Jackson made a music video here years ago. Salvador was the capital of Brazil for 200 years. As we walked from the elevator, we saw the Pelourinho, the square where slaves were punished;...

Feb 1, 2017 - Salvador... Salvador... Salvador

Not since the time of living in the UAE 𯇦𯇪 do I remember being hit so intensely with that wall of hot air as you disembarked the aircraft. Salvador is going to be hot! 4 days in a lovely Pousada just on the edge of the old town, electing to take a taxi even though I should be awake after almost 10 hours sleep on the flight by body still feels sluggish - a feeling for a few days I have to get used too. Walking around the old town is easy and well timed for the festival Santa Barbara which

Apr 1, 2014 - Never Dreamed

Greetings All, I hope your April is off to a fabulous beginning:) Once again the breakfast was a gourmet feast of four courses!! We're not even allowed to eat until my mom takes the pictures:( So delicious; and worth the wait! Served respectably at 8:00 Atlantic Time, we all find the morning care free and low key. This final leg of our vacation is really intended to relax and feel refreshed before returning to work on Monday. With this in mind, we casually thought we'd walk to the Market and take in the sites and sounds. I needed to...

Apr 1, 2014 - April 1, 2014 – Aboard Regatta headed to Fortaleza, Brazil

April 1, 2014 – Aboard Regatta headed to Fortaleza, Brazil This morning we had a Portuguese lesson. Neither Patsy nor I are very good at languages, Elly and Alan are good. After the lesson, we had lunch. Patsy went to sit in the sun on the pool deck. I sat on the veranda and read. Alan and Elly had dinner in the Toscana while Patsy, Guto and I had dinner in the Grand Dining Room. One of the appetizers was escargot so you know what I had! It was a fun meal because we elected to share a table. Dave and Joyce Carlson were seated at our table...

Mar 31, 2014 - Grounded

****WARNING**** parents of my students- please read this entry before sharing it with your children. It contains sensitive material. Mama Mia!!! I have exceeded my quota of pictures to post on this site. The last two days in Recife were spent leisurely with Milton and Ana. We did go to the canals to take photos. There is a small historic area where the Legislature stands. Truly there are some buildings that are beautiful. Some have claimed that Recife is the Venice of South America; and while there certainly are canals, it is not as...

Mar 31, 2014 - March 31, 2014 – Salvador, Brazil

March 31, 2014 – Salvador, Brazil This morning I got up enough energy and early enough to walk a nautical mile (6,070 feet). I have been needing to exercise, and this was the morning to get started. After my walk, Patsy and I went to breakfast on the Terrace. Guto and Elly joined us as we finished up. So, we sat and visited with them until they had finished. We had the morning free as we did not dock in Salvador until 2 p.m. So, the rest of the morning was spent being lazy. We found a lounger in the covered part of the top deck and spent...
