Feb 20, 2013 - Armacao dos Buzios - the Portuguese (Brazilian) Riviera

Today was an easy day after Rio. We were at Armação dos Búzios, about 60 miles up the coast from Rio. Where, you say? Well, if you are old enough to remember Brigitte Bardot, the star of “And God Created Woman,” then you may remember that she had a Brazilian boyfriend and they were hounded by the paparazzi whenever they showed up in Rio, so they ran away to Búzios and, basically, put it on the map. Búzios is a charming little spit of land connected by a narrow finger of land to what would be considered a “mainland” and would otherwise make...

May 4, 2012 - Buzios- Relaxation time!

Buzios- Time to relax inbetween the hectic days spent in earlier days & in preperation for the craziness of Rio, & that is exactly what I ended up doing. After spending a good part of the day travelling to Buzios itself, we spent the evening cruising around some ilands, having a few drinks & some people even went for a swim- not me, I had had a few drinks. Anyhow, it was a bit of a scary flight from Iguassa upto Rio airport... upon a look at the airplane we boarded there was some nice chunks of airplane with rust on it (including the...

Apr 27, 2008 - Paradiset Buzios

Mar 5, 2006 - BRAZIL ... finally!!!!

I'm never coming home, so if anyone wants to see me again they better get their ass on a plane to visit me in sunny fabulous MACAE! After months of waiting and dealing with the insanities of obtaining a Brazilian work visa, Coco and I are finally settled into our new home. From the moment I got off the plane on Tuesday (the day of Carnaval) I have been in heaven. This place is everything I thought it would be and so much more. I was met at the airport in Rio by Irene, one of the admins here at Ativo (my school). She (and everyone else I...

BRAZIL!!!

Aug 19, 2005 - When my baby smiles at me...

The rich lead an idyllic life in Rio. Okay, we're not rich and we weren't able to buy a decent evening meal, but we were able to pretend for 5 days and boy, it was good. Before we go any further, apologies for the delay on the Rio entry. No excuses - just haven't gotten around to it. Back to Rio. Ipanema Beach was our last stop in South America and we could not have chosen a better spot. Ipanema is where all the cliches of Rio: beaches, babes and beach volleyball, come together in one glorious location. There are a number of beaches to...

Feb 10, 2005 - Brasil - Buzios

We took the bus to Buzios with Jeff and Ian. They were staying at Marta´s apartment with us, and were from San Francisco. Ian had done the prework in finding a place in Buzios so we just tagged along !!! The bus took 5 hours (half of which was picking people up in Rio !!!) and we arrived at La Mandragora (our hotel) mid afternoon. After an initial mix up when we were allocated a rather crap room ! we settled in to our bungalow which overlooked the pool and was much nicer. We had a look around the town and had a bite to eat in town. We then...
