I know we had send you a Xmas message from Rio--------but here are a few more facts and pictures of the city. I would say the only way to go to Rio is by boat, the sail in is just amazing---good thing our cabin was on the Port side of the ship. It is very green and tropical and the beaches (Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon) look amazing. Then you look up and see Christ the Redeemer on Corcovado, Sugarloaf and the huge bridge crossing to Niterol, on the other side of Guanabara Bay. After docking we took a bus up to Petropolis, about 1 1/2...

Apr 2, 2008 - Arrival in Rio

After a good and trouble free flight and transfer to our hotel we arrived at Copacabana at 9:30am where the temperature was already up to 29 degrees! With check in at 12:00 this left us a few hours to kill wandering the streets with our very heavy day packs. We found a good cafe for breakfast and settled down for a read of the Lonely Planet and to enjoy the Brazilian coffee. Jen – I started one of my novels you gave me! Feb 4, 2008 - The Main Event Rio Carnival Monday Night!!!

ok sorry for the late update. the south american party islands ive been on are not known for there fast internet connection. well the last night of carnival was on 4th of Feb and its the biggest and best night so that is the night that we whent. it didnt matter that we didnt have tickets and that that night had been sold out for months. minor problems. we headed out from the hostel at about 7.30 and took the subway to the Samba drome. Every night there are about 6-7 Samba schools that will go down the samba stip to their theme song. Each...

Sep 26, 2007 - Rio De Janeiro!

So much to say for Rio but as you may have gathered willing and able internet with Windows XP at a reasonable cost is becoming few and far between so for South America at least, it is going to have be a bit of a brain dump of highlights... So here we go. Arrived in Ipanema to find that our hotel was RIGHT on Ipanema Beach, it was an amazing location.
