Jul 12, 2019 - Icefield center

July 12. Left very early to spend the first hour to an hour and a half at the dump First and then refilling water, and then to the gas station for fuel. From Lake Louise we took the Icefields Parkway halfway to Icefield Centre. This is probably one of the most picturesque drives we’ve ever been on. I recommend googling it and looking. Absolutely fabulous. It is basically a wide Valley Flanked by very very steep and very very high mountains. Jagged Peak‘s with snow all over them and basically snow down to ground level in places. We stopped...

Summer 2019

May 21, 2013 - Rocky Mtr days 4-9 snow, snow and more......

Today we did it...saw our 1st snowfall....Cross that off my bucket list. Athabasca Glacier and the Icefields, a place I had heard about from family and friends, some loved it, others just OK. I loved it, and here I discovered what folk mean when they talk about whiteouts in the snow - the minute you remove the sunglasses to have your photo taken you are almost blinded, the sun shoneso strongly, and everywhere it was white - forever!!!!!!! We met up with a couple (Sue andNigel) from the Rocky Mountaineer on another coach, and spent a playful...

Aug 1, 2009 - Yoho National Park and Jasper National Park

We visited Yoho National Park on our way to Lake Louise. We took a short hike to the base Takakkaw Falls one of Canada's highest at 254 m (833 ft.). After visiting Lake Louise we head up the Icefield Parkway through Banff National Park and into Jasper National Park. We saw one deer. Last year we saw goats, sheep and bears, seems that spring is a better time for wildlife watching. We spent the night beneath the Athabasca, Dome and Small Glaciers. We had our usual evening rain...

Jun 15, 2009 - Columbia Ice Fields, Jasper National Park

Enroute to Jasper, Alberta, we stopped at the Icefields Visitor Center on the Icefield Parkway. We went on a tour of the Columbia Icefields. We road in a Brewster Ice Explorer Snocoach (found nowhere else on earth), which took us onto the glacier. Then we were able to get out and walk on the glacier and we even filled our water bottle with pure glacier water. It was delicious. Canada has experienced four major Ice Ages. The Athabasca Glacier and the Columbia Icefield once formed part of an enormous ice sheet that ground and carved the...

Jul 25, 2008 - Banff - Jasper (288 km)
