Sep 20, 2019 - Dinosaur hunting in the badlands

Fri 20th Sep We off on another road trip to the Badlands, to find Dinosaurs in Drumheller and check out some hoodoos. The scenery here is completely different, as in it is the Badlands, lots of wheat and hay crops, and Horseshoe canyon is impressive. In Drumheller there are dinosaurs everywhere, a few are lifelike, but many are cool and quirky. We go to lunch about 16km down the road to a wee town called Wayne. We cross the Rosebud River eleven times, (one way bridges each have their number hand painted on the ends, in case you lose count)...

Sep 19, 2019 - Ice ice baby

Thurs 19th September Another exciting day planned, we head back to Calgary (Cowtown) today, with a stop at Columbia Icefields Athabasca glacier. These are largest icefields in the Rockies, home to six glaciers, formed a couple of hundred thousand years ago. Our tour includes the glass floor Skywalk above Sunwapta valley, CA$200 ($238) for the two of us. Our first stop is at the lookout over Athabasca Pass, and then on to Athabasca Falls. It is a tad chilly, minus 1 degrees, but sunny and no breeze, so it is not too bad at all. It is busy...

Sep 13, 2019 - Cowtown

Friday 13th Sep… … and it is a full moon tonight (harvest moon). We pity anyone working a late shift tonight. Sharilyn is away to work before 9am, and we need to leave by 9.30 to head to Newstadt to catch the bus to the airport. Cynthea is packing and shouts out to Tony that she does not have Digby and Doug, but then he and Brian think they hear that she has found them. The car is packed, and we are ready to go when Cynthea says again about the boys. A mad panic, and a quick look, but they are nowhere to be found. We hope they have been put...

Jul 14, 2019 - Weekend in Calgary

July 12, 2019 - Drove from Revelstoke to Calgary. Met lots of RV's on the road leaving Calgary. Got to Calgary around 5:00 and parked the rv at L.A.D.s Napa Auto. Were invited to Dave and Jodi's for supper. Had Alvin's favourites - hamburgers and potato salad. Was nice to see the girls! July 13, 2019 - Had breakfast with Ursula and Murray Ruttle (friends that we met in Mesa that live in Calgary). Had an excellent breakfast at Cora's. Had never eaten there before but will definitely go back. Shopped at Costco. Were back at Dave and Jodi's...

Jul 7, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Gasoline is about $1.14 Per liter. There are 3.79 liters in a gallon. You do the math. We woke (not very early) to a beautiful morning! Sun was shining! Woo hoo! Leisurely morning getting going. finally left around 12:30 for Heritage Park. Very large with a lot of acreage and walking! It depicts the area from the late 1800 through the early 1900s. Buildings and homes have been moved in or re-created And spread out over a very large area. As we arrived it started raining so we sat in the car for 20 minutes. Rain stopped, sun came out, and...

Summer 2019

Jul 6, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Somehow I managed to wake up after the long day yesterday and the very late night. It was after 2am before we got to sleep. It was a beautiful sunny and dry morning in the upper 60s! It went up to 72 today. Caught the 11:30 Shuttlebus to the stampede grounds. We walked around for a while, saw vendors and lots of western wear for sale. We skipped the midway and areas with all the rides. Smelling all the food for sale was painful. Barbecued everything, along with all the usual county fair type food. Everything smelled sooooooo good! The rodeo...

Jul 5, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

July 5. Forgot to mention that on the way to Calgary we hit the halfway point of mileage for this trip, 2600 miles so far! Also, Sorry if you get the update message twice. Wi-Fi is so bad that it is hard to tell when it goes through. What a waste of a nice long day. Sunset last night was at 9:52! It was not dark yet! Too bad it was raining. So here we are up at the crack of Dawn, cloudy, overcast, drizzling, I WANT SUN! Just kind of crawled out of bed and into clothes, jackets etc. and headed out at 6:30am for the parade with breakfast...

Summer 2019

Jul 4, 2019 - Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Well, we kind of got a later start than we had planned. Allan sort of had an altercation with the dump procedure. Fellow RVers will understand the rest of you don’t need to know the details. Suffice it to say, he was not a happy camper! 𯒩 Hope everyone had a nice Fourth of July. We now expect to be dealing with rain almost every single day this week. Interesting how in these parts one has to check the weather not just Daily but hourly! And it has been this way for several days. Weather changes rapidly! It’s was cloudy, foggy, and rainy all...

Summer 2019

Apr 23, 2019 - First Step

Christine was up early today to go for a hair appointment. Nan finished her packing and I did some odds and ends. Christine came home and I took the car to Costco to get salt for the water softener. Our next door neighbours had just returned from winter in Mexico, and we met them in the driveway. We had arranged for Fiona to look after our place while we were gone, but they insisted that they do it, so we cancelled Fiona. We loaded up the car with Nan's and our luggage and had lunch then set off. We left before 1:45PM and dropped Nan at...

Nov 1, 2018 - Calgary

When I plan a trip to a big city, I always start by looking for a historical place. And I found the perfect spot...Fort Calgary! The fort itself was small, but the museum and the history of the beginning of Calgary was very interesting. Satisfied with this museum, I decided to walk around the city and do some shopping. (At first I was thinking of going to the Glenbow Museum and Studio Bell, but changed my mind.) Calgary might be a good place to live, but as my friend told me, no offense, but was just a big city.

Aug 26, 2018 - Calgary

We did the short but very scenic drive from Banff to Calgary. Calgary is Canada’s third largest city and very nice and clean. They have extensive biking trails and paths here. We did a great ride along the Bow River and ended up in Prince’s Island Park. All very nice. We saw quite a few black squirrels which we haven’t seen before. The next day we planned on doing another bike ride but it was cold and blustery - not conducive for a ride at all. So we decided to see a movie instead - Crazy Rich Asians. It was entertaining and the theater...

Dec 20, 2017 - Off to Banff

December 20 - Winter bags are packed and Leticia picks Vicki and myself up for the ride to LAX to catch Air Canada flight to Calgary. Leticia knows the “back way into LAX” to avoid some of the traffic off the 105 to the airport!! The flight was uneventful (thankfully!). Upon arrival in Calgary and a smooth journey through immigration and passport control, we boarded the bus for our one hour 45 minute ride to Banff and the Rimrock Resort and Spa. Checked in, bags delivered to room time now for dinner and a glass of wine! Dinner was delicious...
