Aug 26, 2018 - Calgary

We did the short but very scenic drive from Banff to Calgary. Calgary is Canada’s third largest city and very nice and clean. They have extensive biking trails and paths here. We did a great ride along the Bow River and ended up in Prince’s Island Park. All very nice. We saw quite a few black squirrels which we haven’t seen before. The next day we planned on doing another bike ride but it was cold and blustery - not conducive for a ride at all. So we decided to see a movie instead - Crazy Rich Asians. It was entertaining and the theater...

Dec 20, 2017 - Off to Banff

December 20 - Winter bags are packed and Leticia picks Vicki and myself up for the ride to LAX to catch Air Canada flight to Calgary. Leticia knows the “back way into LAX” to avoid some of the traffic off the 105 to the airport!! The flight was uneventful (thankfully!). Upon arrival in Calgary and a smooth journey through immigration and passport control, we boarded the bus for our one hour 45 minute ride to Banff and the Rimrock Resort and Spa. Checked in, bags delivered to room time now for dinner and a glass of wine! Dinner was delicious...

Oct 7, 2017 - Calgary (In Transit)

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD We had decided that we didn’t want a direct flight from Vancouver to Gatwick, England with Westjet, thinking it would be good to break up the journey into segments instead of one long flight. For that reason, we left Victoria, flew to Calgary (instead of Vancouver), on to Toronto and then over the pole to Gatwick. We thought it would be good to put our Business Class Lounge pass to good use, but in hindsight, I think it would have been better to have only one stop in Vancouver instead of the two stops. You’d...

Sep 28, 2017 - Calgary

Hello everyone, We arrived in Calgary last Thursday evening and what a greeting we received. Linda, Katherine, Treena, Bill's oldest, and her two children picked us up at the airport. It was late in Alberta but even later for us Maritimers! LOL. Bill's second daughter Angela and her family greeted us Saturday morning. Bill's celebration of life was that afternoon and over 200 people came to say their good-byes. There were many tributes and Linda's was amazing; she is one strong lady. Strong in her faith and her love for Bill and family....

Aug 23, 2017 - Calgary

Calgary, Okotoks and Lake Louise etc…. Terry and I drove into Calgary staying near the airport but walking distance to the Ctrain. We took the Ctrain downtown for our last night. Enjoyed a few happy hour wines on Stephen Avenue Walk, recommended on TripAdvisor as a happening place, watching the passing crowd. Highly recommended. Next morning bright and early we drove to the airport for Terry to take a plane and me to meet up with my friend Crystall who lives very near Calgary in a small town called Okotoks. Crystall and I met on the Peace...

Aug 20, 2017 - Calgary, AB

The Jeep has been amazing through this long journey. It has now been showing the strain but it got us to our destination. Since it was the weekend, when we arrived we started looking up diesel service shops. Sunday was a day of housekeeping chores and Bill further checked out the Jeep. When we checked in I asked about a good dinner place nearby. We were directed to a Greek restaurant, VanGogh Bar and Grill. It was a great find. Bill especially liked the Baklava for dessert. Monday was August 21, the day of the Solar Eclipse. In Calgary, it...

Jul 20, 2017 - Tires and Errands

Today we took a break and got new tires for the truck. Bill originally thought we would make it back to the U.S. before we needed them but such was not the case. We found a Fountain Tire place near the RV (this is the same company that were so helpful at Pincher Creek) and they gave us a good deal. While we were waiting, we walked down to the local Tim Horton's which is a Canadian version of Dunkin Donuts and much loved here. When the tires were finished we ran a few errands in Chestermere, then returned to the RV for a much needed nap and...

Jul 18, 2017 - Headed to Banff National Park

This morning we packed the truck for an overnight and headed to the Glacier View Inn at the Ice Fields where we would spend the night. Now that we are in Calgary, we felt it would be too much to drive to the Ice Fields, take the tour and come back in one day, so we decided to spend the night at the hotel there. On the way, we stopped in Canmore for brunch. The sky around Canmore seemed a little less smoky so we were hopeful that we would be able to have some good views of the Canadian Rockies. After brunch, we drove to the town of Banff...

Jul 17, 2017 - Double Move

Well this was a day. We headed to Canmore our next destination which is only about fifty five miles from Calgary so it only took an hour. We got to our next campground, Rundle Mountain and set up. We had been a little leary of this campground because it had less than stellar reviews, but there is only one other campground in Canmore for large RVs and it was full when we made the reservation. At any rate, we had power for about five minutes then it clicked on and off for the next little while. The temperature was cool enough that we didn't...

Jul 16, 2017 - A Little Shopping

No pictures today. We slept in after a late night last night, then went out for lunch. We did a little shopping and back to watch the rodeo finals on TV. We were happy that we were at the stampede yesterday as today they had a huge rain storm with hail. We got nothing at the campground but a wee bit of sprinkles. One of the special things at this stamped was the retirement of Kelly Sutherland who is a chuck wagon driver. He had been with the sport for fifty years, first as an outrider then as a driver. There is a mandatory retirement at age...

Jul 15, 2017 - The Calgary Stampede

Today was our day to go to the Stampede. We were lucky enough to find a campground which has a bus to take you and bring you back. We caught the bus at 11:30am and rode through Calgary, which is a much larger city than we had pictured, to the Stampede Grounds which are pretty much downtown. We entered into a midway area. After getting some pictures there, we wandered through part of the Agirama agriculture exhibit. We saw some beautiful black faced goats, sheep and a pig nursing nine piglets, whew! Next we had lunch, a hamburger with 100...

Jul 14, 2017 - On to Calgary

The drive from Waterton to Calgary was 170 miles. It is mostly highway but we did have to go through part of the city to get to our campground. Along our route there were miles of wind generators. We also saw this adorable barn (see pictures). When we arrived, we got settled into our site with 30amp service which should have been fine as the temperature was around eighty. However, after running one air conditioner for less than an hour, the power went off. It seems that the two RVs on this power pole cannot run AC at the same time. After...
