Jun 22, 2017 - Leaving Jasper for Canmore

We woke early and said goodby to our host and hostess at the Chalet. We drove to Jasper and got on the Icelandic Parkway (93). Our first stop was Athabasca Falls. More power concentrated in a water fall than either of us have ever seen. Next was the Columbia Ice Field where we had lunch and after Mary and Cherie hiked up a really big hill to view the frozen field. Somewhere along the way we encountered a grizzly bear on the side of the road. Next was Peyto Lake which was just unbelievable! The turquoise color was spectacular and comes from...

Jun 16, 2017 - St. Mary, MT to Banff National Park and Canmore, Alberta

As we left St. Mary's KOA around 7, a small deer crossed in front of us. It started to rain, but only lasted a few minutes. We went by a town called Standoff and also a sign saying Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump. It was much warmer today in the mid 60s to low 70s. We wanted to fill up in Babb, MT before paying more for gas in Canada, but the station did not open until 8 am. We headed into Canada at a small border crossing that reminded me of the Rouses Point crossing. In Claresholm, Alberta, we paid 99.9 per liter for gas. The roads were...

Apr 30, 2017 - Saskatchewan here we come!

This morning we sit just outside of Canmore and the view is spectacular. Snow-capped mountains against a blue sky encircling us. Yesterday we set off from Kelowna after a wonderful weekend with dear BC Tel friends at The Cove, a lovely lakeside resort. The laughs and stories along with some excellent meals and maybe a couple of drinks, (I noted males seemed to need more hydration than females for this thirsty work of talking) made for another memorable reunion with these 6 special folks we first met as 21 year old newlyweds in Fort St John....

Aug 24, 2016 - Spiral tunnels

Yesterday was cold and wet - we just stayed in the Eagle as there wasn't much to do. Although there is a museum in Canmore, they are crowded also but nothing is as bad as Banff. Birti now has an eye infection so I have an appointment for her later in the PM. We drove part of 1A which is the original road to Lake Louise - it was in the canyon and lots of trees, we did see Castle Mountain and as one drives into Banff Mount Rundle is really prominent - it spans all across the divided highway so is very impressive. We got to Lake Louise and...

Aug 22, 2016 - Banff museum

It was cold and rainy today and we decided to try Banff again to see their park museum. Traffic was slower and we did find a parking space but the place is still crowded and going anywhere is prohibitive. We toured the museum and went back to the Eagle. This museum is great - it contains displays of wildlife found in the park and was built in the early 1900's, the wood craftsmanship is top notch and the displays are of the type of that time period. We did see the display of a magpie - these are the large birds with long tails we've seen in...

Aug 21, 2016 - Banff cave and basin

We arrived yesterday, had lunch at the Columbia Icefields, what a scenic site for a lunch. The parkway is spectacular. We are out of the mountains but they surround us so we are in a scenic location here in Canmore. Today we drove into Banff, so congested that many parking lots were full. We did find space at Cave and Basin and were able to use our pass there. The warm sulfur spring was discovered in the late 1800's and it's development as a tourist attraction coincided with the expansion of railroads and put Banff on the map.Canadians saw...

Jun 2, 2016 - Day 10, Canmore, AB

We drove up to Banff, and on up to Lake Louise today. It rained off and on most of the day. The lake was beautifull, it would have even been better in the sunlight. The mountains are much steeper than any I remember. We will move the trailer tomorrow up to Jasper, about 175 miles. We are staying Whistlers Campground in the National Park, there will be no wifi, or tv, unless the satalite will see thru the trees. We do have full hook ups though. So the next update will be after we find another wifi!

Jun 1, 2016 - Day 9 Canmore, AB

We took a scenic drive up the mountain starting at the Canmore Nardic Centre where the down hill skiing took place when the Olympics were At Calgaryi in 1988. The Road was gravel for 16 Km passing through several Provincial Parks. Along the West side of the Mountains we saw Spray Lakes and passed Mt. Enadine Lodge. We saw six Rocky Mountain sheep eating on the side of the road. On the other side of the mountain we saw the Naskiska Ski Lodge very nice. The trip was approximatly 70 miles long. We loved it. Back at our cabin on wheels...

May 26, 2016 - Spring Creek Village

We decided to spend another night here so we went into town to explore. Cute Rustic Mountain type, small town snuggled in with great mountain views. CW checked out the electrical system & we think we should be OK towing the car so will try tomorrow & see what happens. It’s cool here with showers on & off.

May 25, 2016 - Mountains

On the road at 7:30am through Crazy Creek where we have visited once before & is a great stop, on to 3Valley Gap which I think is always a good view & an interesting stop if you’ve never been. Climbing the Monashee Mts. to Revelstoke & through Rodgers Pass at 4373ft.Glacier National Park & a time change. Now it’s very slow through three snow shed tunnels dropping 1,000 feet in short order, followed by long smooth winding descents to the valley before Golden & the Rocky Mountains with Kicking Horse Pass. We saw the Rocky Mountaineer Train...

Jun 21, 2015 - The Canadian Border

HELLO...I had hoped to have sent out a couple reports by now, but internet availability and my inexperience with this site have delayed things. We left the warehouse Sunday, June 14, about 7:30 pm, hoping to get out of Denver and spend the night in a Walmart lot near Ft. Collins. WRONG, neither of the 2 stores around I-25 exits 268 and 269 allow RVs. So we stayed at the Little America in Cheyenne, WY Day 1...drove to Sheridan, WY Some rain and road construction. Car really dirty. Day 2...a rough day of driving on MT HiWay 3 from Billings to...

Jun 1, 2015 - Johnston Canyon, Banff

Another beautiful day. Yesterday, we talked with another camper that had been coming in here for the last 25 years or so. He told us about a place called Johnston canyon. He said it had several waterfalls. We looked it up today. The sign said .5 miles to the first falls. That's right, miles. (just out of habit I tried to convert miles to miles but it came out the same.) The fact that it was in miles should have been our first clue, this is the land of Km's. When we got back, Linda's trip counter said 2.5 miles round trip. On our drive into...
