Oct 9, 2016 - Cochrane AB. Oct. 2 – 9, 2016
We left Maple Creek around the usual time 9:00 am and proceeded to head west. The wind conditions where perfect for towing with little to no wind all the way to Cochrane. Now for anyone who has ever made this trip it can be quit boring especially when you are by yourself in the vehicle. So you see things to keep your interest up. Things like a heard of Antelope on the flat lands between Medicine Hat and Brooks or the 200 car trains of container cars heading east and west as the Trans Canada parallels the CP Rail main line in this region of...Jump to full entry
Jun 4, 2016 - Canada, eh!
Late start today. Beautiful and sunny weather with highs in the 80’s, and we are moving north? Less than 20 miles and we were at the border crossing. Of course, we went on the wrong line and had to move over, which involved me moving and replacing the orange cones, but all was well. The Canadian Customs officer seemed a little annoyed. After showing our passports and a few cursory questions; where are we from? how long will we be in Canada? do we have firearms? do we have a pet? and do we have any alcohol? (yes to the alcohol question only,...Jump to full entry
May 19, 2014 - Oh Canada
Today we crossed the border into Canada and are now in the town of Cochrane, Alberta. Cochrane is just west of Calgary. We could see the mountains to the west as we were travelling north. Looked like there was lots of snow still left on the peaks. We made a Walmart run after we got set up here at the RV park. Their Walmart was really lacking compared to the one we are used to. Tomorrow we leave for Banff National Park in the Canadian Rockies for the first of 11 nights. The weather forcast for the next 5 days looks good, partly cloudy with...Jump to full entry
Aug 20, 2013 - Ice Cream in Cochrane with the Jenks Clan
Gene, Anick and the gang swang through S. Alberta after an epic trip to Europe. We hooked up with them, along with Lorie, Terry, Colin and Aiden in Cochrane for a short visit and some ice cream at Mackay's in Cochrane. The place to go for ice cream around here! A short but very sweet visit.Jump to full entry
Sep 19, 2012 - Last Day in Cochrane
This will be our last day in Cochrane. We had a pleasant visit with our temporary next door neighbors, Chuck and Sheila. They are locals who are breaking in their new motorhome. Our stay in Cochrane has been a pleasant one. The campground has excellent facilities and its location adjacent to the Bow River bike path is super. Over a mile of that path is off-leash dog territory and we have crossed paths with many owners with their dog or, more likely, dogs happily trailing along. Cochrane is a different kind of small town with most of the...Jump to full entry
Sep 13, 2012 - Glacier and Yoho National Parks
Today we headed east from Revelstoke toward the plains of Alberta. Along the way we took a look at Glacier National Park and Yoho National Park. We actually started our exploration yesterday in the Escape by making the forty-mile trip from Revelstoke to Rogers Pass (Glacier) and back. The weather yesterday was not great with cool temperatures and some overcast skies. But we had a good time anyway. We began by stopping at the eastern edge of Mount Revelstoke National Park for the short walk at the Giant Cedars Boardwalk. This old growth...Jump to full entry
Jun 19, 2012 - Made it to Canada
Made it into Canada this afternoon. No problem crossing the boarder. Rained almost all day. Never got out of the low 60's. Should be in the 40's again this evening, the electric blanket is feeling good. The campground we are in tonight is by far the best one of the trip really clean and neat. The wifi stinks though having trouble loading pictures and it really is running slow. We went through, Nanton AB today, it is the home town of John Melvin's father, we got some pictures and will have to load them when we get a better connection. We...Jump to full entry
May 8, 2012 - Swift Current, Saskatchewan to Cochrane, Alberta, Canada
May 8, 2012 Swift Current, SK/Cochrane, Alberta Off at 9:10 AM in 54 degrees and bright sunshine. Today will be a more comfortable day...fewer miles. Will be closer to Banff where the fun begins... Hereferd cattle, bales of hay, huge grain silos, occasional oil pumps and a few wind turbines are to be seen with a paved bouncy road. It’s comparatively flat land with a riddge off in the distance. Happily feeding ducks are seen on the small ponds and lakes near the road with few trees...the trees basically seen around the sparse number of farm...Jump to full entry
Aug 25, 2010 - On the Road again . . .
Wednesday - Today David and Bradley left about 7:00 a.m to head towards Grand Coulee WA, where they will meet up with Dean. Once they got to Radium, they encountered black wolves right on the highway and lots of other wildlife. They stopped in Cranbrook for a bite to eat and then ventured on. With Bradleys' bike having such a small tank, they will have to stop for gas about every 100 miles! They have a syphon with them, and Dean is bringing a gas can - just in case. The trip to Grand Coulee was long and only a couple of tense moments for...Jump to full entry
Aug 24, 2010 - Back to Normal?
Tuesday - Off to the doctor today to have Kyle's bandages checked and see if we can get his kneed x-rayed as they never did that in Fernie and it is quite painful and difficult to bend. Today was the day that David, Kyle and Bradley were going to head out on the second leg of their trip to meet up with Uncle Dean and head down to California. David and Bradley delayed their trip for a day to help out with things at this end. Ended up heading into Calgary for x-ray about 4:00 as Cochrane does not have x-ray anymore, so went to Market Mall...Jump to full entry
Aug 23, 2010 - Heading Home
Monday - We have to take Kyle to the emergency today to have his bandages re done and make sure there is no infection. After waiting over 2 hours, we were able to pack up and head back home. I rode in the truck with Gramp and Kyle pulling the trailer with Kyle's bike on it and David rode our bike home. We stopped in Radium for a break and then again in Canmore for gas. We got home and settled around 6 p.m. I made BBQ supper and we were able to relax and get organized with everything. Grampa is staying overnight and will head back to...Jump to full entry
Aug 22, 2010 - Recovery in Cranbrook . .
Sunday - After a gruelling day and night, we awoke today to once again access what had just happened. Emotions were very high with everyone - but we were all together. Gramma and Grampa were so caring and helpful, words cannot express our appreciation for all they have had to do this trip! Kyle woke up this morning and felt like he was hit by a train! Very bruised, battered and sore to say the least. We had to make arrangements today to go back to Eureka to pick Kyle's bike up and bring it back to Cranbrook. Grampa tracked down a u-haul...Jump to full entry
