Jun 19, 2011 - Drayton Valley, AB

After a rainy night in Okotok; we start another day hoping for some nice weather only to have the dark clouds move overhead and the raindrops started to fall again; it rained most of the day. We arrived in Drayton Valley; Frank asked about a campground to which we were directed to the Walmart. After checking that out we decided to move on down the road; to our surprise we found a very nice city campground right after we pulled out of the Walmart parking lot; it was tucked back from the road. So we set up for the night there under the...

Campground: Pembina River Provincial Park Mike and Sally and we decided to stop at Rocky Mountain House Historic Site, a tableau of the fur traders in Alberta. Our GPS led us astray but we managed to recover and find the entrance. The site was not up to par with the ranch of yesterday mainly because there is not much physical evidence that the forts were there. It’s a nice facility; they have a great movie about it but when we went outside, it was cloudy and cold. Along the path there were little huts with narratives but they were too long...

North to Alaska 2010

Aug 18, 2008 - On the Road Again.

Up around 7:15a.m. today. - 'Dumped' at about 8:15a.m. For you non-campers this is the unfun part of camping, but it's a dirty job and someone's got to do it. (me). - Arrived at a very nice provincial park south of Drayton Valley called 'Willey West'. Wanted to stay 2 nights, but there were no vacancies. (Tourism is down?) - Went to the Drayton Valley golf course and did nine holes. There was an incident. The temperature was about +38celcius. On the 8th hole Margret near passed out because of the heat. She went down on to her knees. I...

Aug 15, 2007 - Drayton Valley

After a full day of driving through the National Parks of the Glaciers and Banff we finally made it to Rocky Mountain House. We decided to turn off early so we could go through Drayton Valley and visit with Steve and Doreen one more time before the trip was finally over and we got home(which we planned on for the next day). Having arrived unannounced, they were totally shocked to have us show up on their doorstep. Our last entry before we stopped in was in Chicago. They thought we were still somewhere "down there". Well to our luck, we...

FATH WORLD TOUR!

Oct 1, 2006 - Camping at Drayton Valley

West of Edmonton, on your way to Jasper is Drayton Valley country. Stunning autumn colours covered the landscape. This was our Harvest Party extended over the weekend. We got to stay in a lovely hand-made log cabin (apparently built by a 14-year old Austrian girl). Despite secure windows and walls, October was when bears start to come down out of the mountains looking for a place to hibernate for the winter and our wee cabin would be a cozy place if a bear took a notion. Hence, Rob, the farm/land owner gave us an impromptu lesson in how to...

Aug 16, 2006 - Rocky Mountian House, Alberta, Canada

We arrived at the home of our friend Amy Whitt today. What a beautiful place to live with the Canadian Rockies in view and miles of rolling hills and forests everywhere you look. The only thing missing was Amy's partner Denise Thulin. Denise happens to be in Bethel, AK working while we are visiting, I guess we will have to wait till we get home to see her... We spend a couple nice days visiting, went into town shopping and then got nervous about how far we still have left to go, so we packed up and headed northwest toward the start of the...
