Friday, August 17 I got up about 7 and typed on my journal in the car. I got about one day done before Larry got up. We had muffins and juice for breakfast, then broke camp. We stopped for gas, ice, and groceries. We also stopped at the Visitor Center in Dawson Creek (mile 0 of the Alaska Highway), an Art Gallery (we bought a couple of items, and enjoyed their photo exhibit on the building of the Alaska Highway), and went to the Alaska Highway House, which had good exhibits, too. 2012 Alaska Roadtrip

Jun 30, 2012 - Elk Island NP, Alberta from Rouleau (Sask)

Leaving Rouleau, Saskatchewan, on Hwy 39 we followed Sask 2 to Sask 11 near Moose Jaw. Both the latter are good roads. The Sobey's supermarket is a convenient stop close to the highway. At Saskatoon we continued northwest on the TransCanada Hwy 16, the Yellowhead Hwy. Like Sask 11, TC16 is divided with a speed limit of 110km/hr. There are some suprisingly beautiful gullies along this route through northern Saskatchewan. The gullies were formed by the weight of heavy glaciers pushing down on the land. Alaska from a tent

Jun 11, 2010 - BISON

George has been marvelling over the black stoneless prairie soil. The potato growers won't plant in stony soil here. There are also some big complicated farming rig set ups. I tried to get a photo with the zoom lens and could only take parts. Changed the lens to get a picture of the whole set-up. We drove 8 hours today at our steady 58 mph pace. We are getting 14.5 to 15 MPG on the Trans-Canada, generally a two lane highway. Our overnight today is at Elk Island National Park. The park is located in a hilly "island" in the prairie.
