Oct 30, 2013 - Day 1 - On the road again

So after a summer of good times, sad times, lazyness and back-breaking landscaping work, we are on the road again. We are leaving the Ft McMurray family getting ready for Halloween, Tracy starting a new job, Jenn preparing for her busy basket season, and Greg trying to find time to get his garage at the cabin finished and get some snowmobiling in the mountains. We are heading to Calgary for the weekend to watch Amanda and Darren dance in the Rocky Mountain Dance Sport Competition. We left the house about 9:25 am, had lunch at Zina's in...

Jan 5, 2013 - Day 155 to Day 173 - At Home for the Holidays

We spent a terrific two and a half weeks at home with the family for the holidays. We drove to Boyle on Dec 30 to see Lois Lord in hospital. She is not doing well. We had a short visit and then saw Rachelle at home before heading out for lunch. We ran into Ed Shymoniak at Boyle Burger Bar and then headed to Lac la Biche. We spent the night at Thompson's with their family and got caught up. We drove home on the 31st. There was fresh snow and the drive up highway 881 was peaceful and very beautiful. We spent New Years Eve playing cards with...

The Wandering Nunns

Aug 7, 2009 - Fort McMurray, Alberta

8/7 – 8/8 In the morning we left our motorhomes in the campground, got into David and Dianne’s car and departed on a two day field trip to the oil sands by the town of Fort McMurray. Fort McMurray is located about 240 miles north of Lamont and is the third largest city in Alberta. After checking into the Sawridge Inn and Conference Centre we drove into town. We spent some time checking out a children’s fair and also taking a tour of Heritage Park. This park is a collection of old (1920’s) town buildings and homes relocated to the park. The...

Jul 15, 2009 - Farewell Fort McMurray...more importantly...BROTHERS DAY!!!

Today we leave on our trip. This day is known as BROTHERS DAY. Simon thought of BROTHERS DAY. "There is Mother's Day and Father's Day, but what about us." The boys get each other gifts. The gifts must be something small that can be played with during the long car rides of the summer holidays and BROTHERS DAY is held the morning that we leave. Yes, this is a bit indulgent but what the heck, it is a fun way to start a holiday. I can not put words to the variety of thoughts that were in our minds as we locked the door for the last time. It has...

Jul 9, 2007 - Saying goodbye to the 600 Block

We enjoyed our time in our very first house/condo at "The 600 Block" in Fort McMurray...but it is time to move on. July 9th is the possession date for the new owners and then we'll be on our way to Pincher Creek to store our "stuff" and then head to Tahsis for a summer with the family and friends...and the local salmon and halibut of course. We'll miss our colleagues in Fort McMurray...but we're only taking a leave and we'll keep in touch while we are on the road. Hi guys!!!!

May 6, 2006 - Getting Ready in Fort Mac

Well I'm procrastinating as usual. Have some friends coming over tonight and wanted to be packed for my trip before they come. We'll see if that happens. Have 2 separate bags to pack, one for the actual walk and a separate one for after the walk when the weight won't matter quite so much. Talked with Aunt Barb last night and I think I've got everything set for the trip to Spain. It's amazing how many products have their "mini me" versions. Great for size and weight restrictions. So right now my backpack for my walking trip weighs 16lbs (not...
