Jul 10, 2012 - Banff, Alberta

Tues., July 10th – After battling the Calgary traffic, we decided to take the backroads into Banff today. When we arrived at Tunnel Mountain Village II Campground, we took off for our typical stroll through the bustling, resort town of Banff. Wed., July 11th – Today we were back in the sight-seeing mode. Our day started with a trip to Bow Falls, a walk through the exquisite Fairmont Spring Hotel, and a stroll through Cascade Time Gardens. Next we did a curvy drive up Norquay Mt. for a view of Banff from the top. From there we did the Lake...

Jul 8, 2012 - High River, Alberta

Sun., July 8th – We drove into Alberta today, with only about a 10 min. border crossing delay. We set-up the RV in a very nice city park in High River, Alberta – George Lane Memoria Park. We’re finding the days to be noticeably longer as we travel north. Mon., July 9th – We had given thought to getting tickets to the Calgary Stampede…..until we picked up a local paper that showed the crowds getting in the day before (over 107,000 passed through the gates in one day!) That talked us right out of getting into that mess. So we drove into...

Jul 3, 2012 - The C-Train

It started raining early in the morning and stopped about 8:30 AM. By the time we left the campsite, it was sunny. We drove about 20 minutes to check out our next accomodations and then continued on another 20 minutes to the T station. We wanted to get an idea of the distance so we'll be familiar when the herd of people start infiltrating the area. We took the T into Calgary to Stampede Park. A lot of people were working, putting on the final touches. Guess what was across the street from the Stampede grounds? The Stampede Casino, of...

Jul 2, 2012 - High River

Ed went into the casino for a paper while I showered. We made the decision to leave and try to get a campground near Okotoks, our scheduled stay while we're at the Stampede. (We can't get in early at our reserved site.) While Ed was hooking up, I made a quick trip into the casino; one last try. And a quick trip it was, no luck. It's time to hit the road. It feels good to be "on the road again". We headed down Rte 40 and climbed to an elevation of 7,200 feet, Highwood Pass. There was quite a bit of snow on the mountains and as far down as...

Sep 17, 2010 - High River, Alberta

Oh WOW....29 degrees this morning. The water hose is frozen and the faucet handle is also. Had to heat water and pour over it to disconnect our water hose. I think Mr. Munds is getting concerned about this weather, but I'm feel sure we are going to be fine as we are traveling south today and I know it is not like this as we get closer to the Border. We got a fairly early start this morning. Had not traveled very far and we have "SUNSHINE". It is a beautiful day. Tommy is really a "Happy Camper". Everything is going great until we get to...

Jul 24, 2009 - Departure

It's 10:30 in the morning, the truck and trailer are ready, the kids and Duke are loaded into the trailer and Monique and Bob are excited. We are off. We travelled North straight up the Number 2 to the 22x and then through Bragg Creek to the Number 1. A big left turn and we are heading West. We travelled along straight to Castle Junction where we pulled into the rest area for a stretch and equipment check. Side Note... On our trip to San Diego we purchased a bumper mount bike rack and nearly tore our bumper off on the first day. Friend...

May 24, 2009 - Day 25 to High River Camp

today day 25 (may 24) we drove from edmonton to calgary. our photos are once again ho-humers, just road shots to calgary and of our camp in a town south of calgary, high river. if you've ever driven the hiways in texas, usa, you seen what it looks like from edmonton to calgary, crosses level to gently broken grazing lands w/wooded sections. we decided not to visit calgary, unlike edmonton, too big and busy even on a sunday, the roads were like mid-week rush. they really need to improve the road signs directions, most were very confusing if...
