Jun 20, 2018 - Valleyview

Started out this morning with a game of golf at a nearby golf course. Needless to say George won that game hands down. I played what will turn out to be the worst game of my life! While George and I were out golfing, Margret, Margaret & Barb visited. Glenn was off hiking. Margret and I took a trip into town, did some shopping. We explored the town, it took all of 20 minutes or so. In the evening we took it easy!

On Friday, 6th day of travel, we made it to Valleyview, AB, CAN, stayed at Sherk's RV Park. Nice place, but we're learning that just because a campground advertises Wifi, that doesn't mean it works!! We're feeling like we've entered the dark ages before the internet. Oh well, maybe it's time we get less dependent on our electronic gizmos. We're also finding that as we travel further North and West, the days are getting much longer. it's 9:45, and the sun is just starting to set.

Alaska 2016

Aug 7, 2014 - Valleyview, AB

Time change, now only 2 hours behind you. We got an early start to the day, but it was straight to the truck wash. $33.50 and an hour and a half later, we're on the road to Valleyview. The motorhome looks a lot better without all the northern BC dirt on it. Stopped on our way through Dawson Creek at Tim Hortons. OH, did that taste good. From Dawson Creek, it was due east on Hwy 49, then south to Valleyview. Wow! You talk about roads being "straight as an arrow". Gas was $1.29.9 L. It didn't take long after leaving Dawson Creek for the...

2014 Alaska Trip

Jun 10, 2014 - Valleyview, Alberta - June 2014

A few milestones today. We have driven our first 1,000 miles in Canada. Saw our first moose! She was a very frightened cow along the side of the highway. She literally dove into the bushes and trees when she spotted us barreling down the highway towards her. She was never in the road, but close. Another drizzly, chilly day. But the scenery was beautiful. The landscape becoming hilly and chock full of trees! Feels more like the Canada I envisioned. Valleyveiw is an over nighter at Sherk's RV Park. This very nice park is located about a mile...

Jun 9, 2013 - West Glacier, Canada Border, Valleyview, AB

Wednesday, June 5, 2013, we are still at Glacier Meadow RV Park on the south end of Glacier National Park. Today we drove up the west side of the park and saw some absolutely beautiful country. (Mountains, Rivers, Streams, Ice, Snow, and animals) The highest altitude we have reached so far is 4980 ft. The rest of the day was spent lying around, cooking a big steak outside and having a great dinner. The weather is perfect, about 65 degrees, and the view is of the snow covered mountain range in the back ground. The rest of the evening was...

Tonight, we have managed to travel 1400 miles and crossed the 55th parallel. Impressed? After a decent(albeit late) meal and a few glasses of a pretty good boxed Cabernet Sauvignon (eastern canadian) we're pretty happy with ourselves.....Almost forgot to mention: to add to the Edmonton Debacle, we hit a particularly large bump in the road - literally, a bump in a construction area. I jokingly said "I'm sure that opened some cupboards!" Well upon arrival here in Valleyview we opened the camper to find half of the dishes crashed to the floor...

Aug 5, 2012 - Day 76 Dawson Creek B.C. to Valleyview Alberta

Day 76: Dawson Creek B.C. to Valleyview Alberta at Shrek's RV park. Today we logged 159 miles on a very warm day, almost 90 degrees! Our first stop was at mile 0 of the Alaska highway. Yep, we did it, we traveled the entire highway and survived! Hopefully the roads will be much better the rest of the trip. Our next stop was in Beaverlodge to get a picture of the world's largest beaver, over 3,000#. It was only put up in 2004 by the small community with lots of donations and volunteer work. Next stop was Grand Prairie where we saw the...

Sun, 13 May: A very Happy Mother's Day to all the moms out there. You have infinitely more patience than we. We had a very comfortable nite. It was warm enough for the heat pumps to be effective, and we had plenty of "juice", so we slept very comforably. We awoke about 0700 and enjoyed a relaxed breakfast before we undertook our "getting underway" tasks. We had checked tire pressure, engine oil, topped off the water tank, and dumped the holding tanks last evening, so our checklist was greatly abridged. We pulled out of our space and hooked...

Jul 6, 2011 - Canada travel day

Today was a travel day to get us closer to Dawson Creek and the start of the Alaskan Highway journey. We only stopped for gas and lunch at a place called The Rochfort Bridge Trading Post. It was good, but also pricey, nothing is cheap in Canada. We stopped at an IGA for some supplies when we stopped at Valleyview, Alberta at Sherk's RV Park for the night. It should be a short run tomorrow to Dawson where we will plan the rough part. Total Miles: 2,999.8

Before we started this morning, John looked at the odometer and stated that we had driven 1964 miles in the last four days. He then added, "Who's hair brain idea was this anyway?" We drove 543 miles today to keep us on track for our 500 mile a day average. We met a couple from Cleveland en route to Alaska as well. They have been on the road since May 23rd. . . so we're not doing too bad. Tomorrow we hit the Alaska Highway. . . and the journey officially begins!!!

Left Ponoka,AB at 8:45AM. Stopped in Edmonton,AB which is the capitol of Alberta and sits in the geographic center of the province. The discovery of oil in 1947 just outside of Edmonton made it the "Oil Capitol of Canada". We went to the West Edmonton Mall which is North America's largest shopping & entertainment center. It features over 800 stores(go Steph) & services, 100 eating establishments, 2 hotels and 9 theme parks. There is an enormous water park, a full-scale amusement park, an ice skating rink, 2 18-hole mini-golf courses,...

Another short drive, about 3 hours. We have it setup this way. We got a campground with full hookups so Susan is doing laundry while the others went to the golf course. We are too far north now for the satellite TV to work. Weather is partly cloudy and in the low 60's. I sure beats rain. Yesterday when I parked, the truck hit a tree and damaged the steps on Susan's side of the truck. Just one more item to have fixed this fall.
