Waterton Lakes National Park is located in the southwest corner of Alberta, Canada, and borders Glacier National Park in Montana, together making up the Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park, the first of its kind in the world. In 1932, Waterton-Glacier International Peace Park was formed from Waterton and Glacier. It was dedicated to world peace by Sir Charles Arthur Mander on behalf of Rotary International. The drive today (47 miles) crosses into Canada and takes us to Waterton National Park. Montana's Glacier National Park and Alberta's Waterton National Park meet at the border between the United States and Canada. In 1932, the parks were designated the World's first International Peace Park to commemorate the bonds of peace and friendship between the two nationals. Slept in til 6:30, this vacation stuff is catching on. Blue sky again. Headed out about 8 and drove to Babb just 8 miles up the road toward Canada. Filled up with the last of the cheap gas, $4.25/gal. Drove the Chief Hwy toward Waterton NP in Canada. Is only about a 20 mile drive. There is a lone mountain peak called Chief Mtn. poking up that looks like a huge butte. Lots of free range cattle wandering the sides of the road. But big excitement around a bend about 1 mile from border. There was a fine looking GRIZZ on the side of the road!!!...Jump to full entry
