Feb 14, 2009 - In 2008 we went to Eastern Canada

Last July and August, we travelled out to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia with our Tent Trailer. We visited Grand Falls, Fundy National Park, Magnetic Hill, Halifax and the Marimichi. 90% of the time it rained while we were there. No very condusive to travelling with a tent trailer. If it had of been better weather we would have had a much better trip, but we still enjoyed our selves. Just a tip for anyone planning on travelling to Fundy National Park. Reserve your campsite ahead of time, and then go directly to the campground and get your...

Sep 19, 2008 - Alliston, ON, The Secret Of Longevity & 357.8

It was another clear and cool day this morning. I called the funeral home to ask if they had a record for my Mom’s cremation and burial. The woman said she would look through the records and call or email me with the results. I called my Aunt Isobel’s extended care home and left a message saying I would arrive today. I decided not to wait for the phone call and headed out to North Bay. A short time later the road passed through the small town of Coniston. That was where my Dad grew up so I pulled in to have a look see. I rode around the...

Aug 5, 2008 - Rest Day in Alliston

Total Distance To Date: 4819 kms. Here we are in sunny Alliston on another rest day. We tend to look forward to rest days like working people look forward to the weekend. The day prior to a rest day tends to be a difficult day, it being assumed that we won't mind the extra effort with a big reward at the end. Yesterday was 166 kms. and according to someone who actually counted, we climbed 128 hills of which 80 were considered major. It turned out to be the third highest climbing day of the tour so far. In the evenings we sit around and...

Aug 5, 2008 - Southern Ontario - it's greener and sunnier here!

Hello Again - this time from sunny Southern Ontario! Well - what a difference a few days can make! I'm in Alliston, Ont on a day off but staying with friends, Dale and Cheryl Hannah, in Barrie. I met Dale and Cheryl a few years ago while they were wintering in Victoria and we have stayed in touch ever since. Nice to have good friends in the right places! I got on the scales when I got here and I've lost about 4 lbs. Not bad! However, Dale is determined to put that weight back on me before I leave tomorrow. We made a good start last night...

Aug 5, 2008 - 46 Alliston - rest

At first I thought I would have to go into Alliston, and I still might go in, but I was able to get my laundry done at the campground, walk across the highway (1 or 2 km actually) to the Nottawasaga Inn for breakfast, find out that they had a buffet for dinner, get WiFi access from the campground, so there may be no need to go into town. It is now 1:00pm and other than bike cleaning, lubing, tuning, and re-wrapping my hande bars, my chores are done. This may be a restful rest day after all . It was restful and after getting way more than...

Aug 4, 2008 - 45 Alliston

This was to be a long day with another galley duty. I had traded galley duties so I could make a side trip to Cameron Falls from Nipigon and today was pay back day. I rode much of the day by myself but met other riders at the first convenience store in Eugenia. Shortly after I helped Gary with a flat; well actually he can easily handle a flat on his own, I helped him look for the nut for his quick release skewer which he had dropped in the long grass. It was a long hot day of riding with an additional drink stop in Creemore and a DQ stop...
