Oct 15, 2012 - Short entry today!

Today's entry is a short one. Not that the day wasn't interesting (it was!) but I have to work, wrong word, at my Creative writing course. I am getting behind. Also I want to make some entry's in my journal. No pictures today! Who wants to look at gray skies? Not me! I am hoping it clears up for golf tomorrow. We are having some very, very good friends (yep they read this too!) visit tomorrow from Welland & we are going to go golfing. Although it will be one-sided as they are at the semi-pro level. (they may be still reading this...

Oct 14, 2012 - Still Carrying Place

13 Oct 2012 Saturday morning. We went out for brunch to a local diner. The food was excellent. It is the first place I have been to where they give you a generous portion of bacon. So much so that we took some home in a 'doggy bag'. I must have had a least 10 slices on my plate. The eggs were poached just perfect, or it least how I like them! That afternoon around 3, the 'gang' started arriving. There were 14 of us. All family and noisy! We had a great visit and a meal. Preparing for the meal kept Lil and Margret busy most of the...

Oct 12, 2012 - Trip to Carrying Place

Having some difficulty uploading pictures through the server tonight. So yesterday we bid a see you to Kathy and Family as we left for my Sister's place in Carrying Place. That is near Quinte West (Trenton, Ontario. We had a leisurely trip down. We took the back roads, staying away from the freeways. We came across this Inukchuk. It must have been 2 metres tall. Not your run of the mill Inukchuk. It must have been a pretty big person that lifted these rocks. While going through Napanee around lunch time we came across a great family...

Aug 7, 2012 - Carrying Place

Day Forty Eight – Aug 7 Carrying Place 141k The wind today was from the south west. For a third of the day we travelled south and then turned east to parallel the shore of Lake Ontario. That first 40k of riding was okay. The wind was light and wasn’t a bothersome head wind. There were no stops along the road going south. It was going through farm country. There is a lot of anger in Ontario about the alternative energy play being done by the provincial government. There is a constant doting of the road side with signs voicing displeasure...

Aug 9, 2011 - Nestleton to Carrying Place

August 8 – Day 48 - Peterborough to Carrying Place (the tour rode from Nestleton) K’s 94.6k Time 3h 56m Average speed: 24k/H T to d 5034 In the AM I was at the bike shop when they opened at 10 and as they did not have the right spokes I was left with the option of replacing the rear wheel which I did. Then it was back on the road to catch up with the tour in Carrying Place, not far from Brighton. While the ride was a bit shorter than that of the tour it was a bit more challenging as I had to ride most of the way around Rice Lake, which...

Aug 7, 2008 - 48 Carrying Place

It was a short, 110km, and relatively flat, but interesting day. I actually got my self ready to go and my tent packed in time to leave camp with Alan and John T.. Alan is the TdC vet who joined us for the Alliston to Ottawa segment and is a professional bicycle mechanic and bicycle mechanics teacher. Needless to say once he gets to camp, riders have lots of questions for him. We rode at a leisurely pace, stopping in Port Hope for coffee and cinnamon buns, checking out the marinas in Port Hope and Cobourg, checking out the Cobourg beach,...
