Jul 10, 2017 - Fenelon Falls

I’m sorry to be so boring for the last few days but I’m just enjoying this little park. It’s great to be able to walk into town which I did this afternoon & bought a Black Raspberry ice-cream. Made by a local dairy & it was delicious. One of the couples I’ve met came down this evening & went through the map with me, showing where the best places are & what routes I should take. He’s been a salesman in this area & has travelled all over so it was very helpful to get his input.

Jul 9, 2017 - Fenelon Falls

It was breezy & cool this morning but when I walked into town away from the wind off the lake, it was a different climate. The sun came out this afternoon & it was beautiful. I haven’t done anything exciting – just walked around the town, watched the boats go through the lock like everyone else & read my book, enjoying the view in front of me.

Jul 8, 2017 - Fenelon Falls

Not a good day for sightseeing – overcast this morning & when the sun came out it was very windy this afternoon. It’s not cold though, maybe mid 20s & quite nice if you can find a place out of the wind. There’s no laundry at this campground but I found there was a public Laundromat not far from here, just 5 minutes' walk. Instead of moving the motorhome, I hit upon the bright idea of using the shopping jeep I bought at a charity shop in Chilliwack. It worked beautifully & I should have used it before. I bundled all my laundry into it, took...

Jul 7, 2017 - Orillia to Fenelon Falls

I love it when I come across something totally unexpected & that’s what happened today. I’d come this way because I wanted to learn about the Trent Severn Waterway (more about that later), & I’d seen on the map a site called the Kirkfield Lift Lock Historic Site which was close to my route. All locks are lift locks so I didn’t expect anything special but this one is. Perhaps the photos explain it better than my words but it consists of 2 separate chambers which are raised & lowered by huge hydraulic rams. Each massive chamber sits on a...

Jul 6, 2012 - Fenelon Falls, On

Today we drove to Fenelon Falls, ON. It is where Sturgeon Lake and Cameron Lake join, another quaint town. The downtown and the lock is located all within a block of each other. We decided another boat tour was in our future. We grabbed a bite of lunch and boarded Kawartha Spirit for a 2 hour tour. Our Captain gave a great narration on the ride. Saw some beautiful homes on the lake and got to go through the locks. Again, a shame people have to live like that! LOL! Our goal was to get back from our boat tour in time to hit the local farmers...
