Jun 5, 2018 - Goderich, Ontario

June 1st This countryside is more familiar as we leave the Bruce Peninsula and drive hwy 21 along Lake Huron. The fog is ever present it seems and while it is hot and humid a few kms inland that changes dramatically near the shore. As we drive south it becomes apparent that the province of Ontario is determined to replace nuclear and hydro driven power generation with wind power. The countryside is not just dotted with wind turbines but covered as far as the eye can see. It takes your eye away from everything else around it as it becomes...

Jul 27, 2012 - YARS Rally at Blyth to Tiny Township, Ontario

Friday, July 20, 2012 We have moved across the street for the YARS (Young Active Retirees) Rally. There have 23 units registered. This is a slower more laid back rally than the National Family Campers and RVers Rally. I think all of us need this slower pace, although we made lots of friends and learned about many places to stop and see while on our Maritime tour. We now think we need four or five months to see all we have on our lists. Rudy and Sharon gave us lots of information from their Maritime tour and now others added more things for...

Jul 21, 2012 - Campvention at Blyth, Ontario, Canada

Monday, 9,2012 Today we drove to Blyth for Campvention. The corn has tasseled in most of the fields. The farmers are cutting the winter wheat and in some places they are even harvesting the straw. The sun is shining, the sky is very blue, and the temperature is in the low 80’s. We are set up and ready to register the attendees tomorrow. Friday, 13, 2012 Checked in around 300 trailers and motorhomes for Campvention and went to an Adventure Caravans seminar on Alaska, we are traveling to Alaska again next year so we picked up a few hints for...

Aug 16, 2005 - Bayfield or Bust

43 34.1 81 42.3 Bayfield, Ontario What a fabulous day for MM!! We motored hard to Bayfield at 2800 - 3000 RPMs for the two hour ride south. Upon arriving at the dock in Bayfield I was just ecstatic to see that there were NO leaks of any sort from our Volvo Penta diesel. Finally the engine is where it should be. Yes, there will be things that go wrong over the course of the trip but that will now be normal maintenance from our usage. We had been accumulating a pronounced diesel odor in the aft cabin and while tolerable, it will be so good to...

Aug 15, 2005 - Walleye for Daniel

43 44.9 81 43.2 Goderich, Ontario The last darts of another sunset on Lake Huron are betrayed by the cool northern breeze that surely is sounding the alarm for fall. Sleep will come very easily tonight without the help of air conditioning. A skunk has announced his presence at the end of the dock and there is always the lingering thought that such a critter might stray down the dock. Our open hatches - covered only with mosquito netting - would not support such a visitor. We will put a companion way board up but trust the skunk to stay in...
