A beautiful day at Cameron’s Beach campground in the middle of nowhere, about 10 km from the little town of Iroquois Falls on the edge of Nellie Lake. There’s not much to see or do here except sit in the sun & enjoy the scenery with everyone else. It was very noisy when I got here yesterday, kids & dogs everywhere but it was Saturday & they’ve all gone home now. Most of the families seem to be from Timmins, one of the larger towns in northern Ontario, about an hour’s drive from here.

Jun 2, 2018 - New Liskeard to Iroquois Falls

The bad weather was gone this morning so I was on the move again. First of all I backtracked 20 km to the town of Cobalt, where I was supposed to go yesterday. In 1903, a couple of railway employees looking for timber noticed some unusual rocks shining in the water of Cobalt Lake. It turned out to be silver ore assaying at 4,000 ounces per ton. This chance discovery led to one of the richest mining booms in Canada & was the exciting beginning of Canada’s billion dollar mining industry.
