Jul 24, 2013 - Blind River (ON) to Sheguindah (ON)

I woke up at 5:00 am and left the campground in Blind River at about 6:30 am. The route had us continuing along Highway 17 past Algoma Mills, Spragge, Serpent River, Spanish and Massey, where we were to take a side road to Espanola, then South on Highway 6 to Manitoulan Island (World's largest island surrounded by fresh water). The best I can say about Highway 17 is that it is an efficient way of covering distance by bicycle, despite its lack of paved shoulder in most areas. When I got to Massey, I found that the side road was being worked...

Aug 1, 2012 - Batman's Campground

Day Forty Two – Aug 1 Little Current 136k Our place of stay tonight is actually Batman’s Campground. It is south of Little Current by about 25 km. Batman’s Campground does not show up on any map that I have or was able to access. It is on a need to know basis. I was up early because of kitchen duty. It was dark outside at 5:15. I used to think that it was because we were far west in the time zone. Yes, but the bigger factor is that we are closer to the equinox as versus the solstice. Where did the summer go? It is sweep duty for me again....

Aug 3, 2011 - Spragge to Sheguiandah

August 3 Day 42 Spragge to the Manitoulin Island, just a few k’s from the bridge. (Shequiandah) K’s 135.62k Time 6h 03m Average speed: 22.40k/H T to d 4477 Good start to the day but very humid and then the rain came again at about 20k and lasted about 3 hours. As usual rain makes for a bit tougher ride especially along a busy road like #17 which in this section as almost no shoulder. One has to be extra careful and hope the cars see you and move over a little so they don’t put you onto the gravel which just about insures you will crash....

Aug 1, 2006 - Georgian Bay

7/25 Georgian Bay - first leg. We headed out to the Georgian Bay in good order. With Carol & Ed as guests, they got to experience some really good waters across the eastern part of the bay to "Petang" as the locals call it. We enjoyed the rendivouz all week long learning many things for boating. We met many great folks & our list of friends is rapidly growing. One seminar we went to on the middle rivers of USA made Sue more nervous for when we do them & John got less nervous about them. So, starting out John was more nervous than Sue & now...
