After a really enjoyable few days meeting up with Diane and Steve we decided to have a tourist day exploring some parts of the Rideau Canal. The idea for the Rideau Canal was conceived in the wake of the War of 1812 between Great Britain/Canada and the Americans. It was to be a secure water supply route for troops and supplies from Montreal to the settlements of Upper Canada and the naval dockyard at Kingston.
