A good morning for staying inside & watching the tennis. It was cold & wet so I was glad I’d planned to stay here for 2 nights. The weather improved this afternoon with some sunny periods so I went for a walk around the campground which is one of the nicest ones I’ve stayed in. It’s called Twin Lakes but there’s actually 4 crystal clear lakes connected together. The smallest one looks like it’s quite shallow & with a couple of waterslides I think it would be the perfect place for kids. The large lake has lots of private boat ramps so it...

Jun 4, 2018 - Iroquois Falls to Moonbeam

This morning, about 30 km north of Iroquois Falls near the town of Cochrane, I stopped at a sign telling me I had just crossed over the 49th Parallel. This parallel is the southern border of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta & most of British Columbia so I’m not nearly as far north as I thought I was. I’ve been headed north-west ever since I left New Brunswick & Cochrane is only a 4 hour train ride south of Hudson’s Bay so it’s deceptive how far south this eastern section of Canada is compared to the west. Jun 24, 2010 - NE Ontario's northern Rte. 11

We decided to take the most northern road major road in Ontario - thinking no big towns, no people, no traffic. Pretty accurate, but the road was really bumpy. Stayed in an amazing campground. Twenty years ago it was a sand field and now it has 4 small lakes with beautiful stonework all around it, a waterslide, picnic grounds, and 100+ fairly permanent RVs set up for their summer weekend with docks, small boats, gardens, screened in porches and brickwork all around most of the RVs for driveways and landscaping.
