Apr 2, 2016 - Home and ......snow

We are back home and have now more snow than the day we left 6 weeks ago. Last Monday we drove some scenic routes In Alabama and ended up at Coleman Lake State Park, away from everything, no cell phone connection, no internet just nature around us. Tuesday we set out to see some more of Alabama and drove towards Montgomery and found one of the nicest State Parks so far: Wind Creek State Park where we were able to have a spot right at the lake, we could step out of the Roadtrek and into the water. Wednesday we decided to head north and try...

Apr 24, 2015 - Home again

Thankful to be home safe and sound after 13000 km of traveling through half the continent. On our way home a funny(?) thing happened as we were driving through the city of St. Louis. We were about to pass a truck loaded with crates of life turkeys when we saw 1 turkey drop to the ground and of course since we were on a 4 lane Interstate it ended up in ground turkey very quickly. When we passed the truck we saw that the outside of this particular crate had come off and another 4 or 5 turkeys were hanging on for dear life. We tried to get the...

Escaping Freeseland

Feb 26, 2015 - Leaving

We are leaving the cold in Canada in order to find some warmth in the Southern USA. Our aim is to get to Arizona fairly directly with driving as many miles as feasible each day. Several folks have asked us if we would do a bit of a blog again so here we go. Likely there will be little to report the first few days but stay with us, better times ahead, I am sure.

Escaping Freeseland

May 6, 2014 - Home again

We just got home again and happy to see the beautiful sunshine. The last 2 days we traveled up through Pennsylvania and New York State and found that it was hardly any warmer than at home so we decided to get home earlier. In Pennsylvania we stopped at Gettysburg the site of a crucial battle during the American Civil war, went to church among the Baptists and after church drove on to Lancaster County. There is a large community of Amish believers in that area and just as The Old Order Mennonites in Waterloo Region they still dress and go...

Mar 27, 2014 - Leaving the snow behind

This past Tuesday we finally left on our long planned trip to Texas, or really anywhere away from the snow. It took us some time to get to warmer temperatures and so the first 2 nights in Pennsylvania and Virginia we stayed overnight at hotels. Temperatures still went down to -13C way too cold to stay overnight in our Roadtrek. Thursday morning we left towards the "Outer Banks" a small strip of land that kind of forms a bow in the Atlantic ocean along the coast of North Carolina. On the way we stopped at the Norfolk Naval Base, we tried...

Sep 27, 2012 - On the road again

We left New Hamburg on Tuesday morning Sept. 25 and our first stop was at the KOA (Kampers of America) campground near Michigan City, MI. A clear invitation to all you farmers and would be farmers to step up to the plate was shown there in the washroom. Some of you asked if I was going to a blog again and so here it is. If you don't want to be disturbed by my rantings feel free to opt out.

Jun 19, 2012 - Home sweet home

Not too much to tell you for the last 2 days were just mostly driving. Through Illinois and Michigan which by the way must have the worst quality of Interstate highways. They seem to be in constant repair but the results are still awful. Last night we stayed in a Michigan State park, very nice and much like our Ontario Provincial parks. Today we arrived home at around noon to find that the place was in great shape. Our live-in all around yard man Adam had done a great job keeping everything cut and trimmed. The Puklicz girls had looked...
