Jul 5, 2017 - Parry Sound

I stopped here because this eastern area of Lake Huron is called Georgian Bay which is famous for its 30,000 islands. I booked on the 1:00pm Island Queen 3 hour cruise which I read was a must-do trip if you’re anywhere near this area. I was still quite worried about what I was going to do with the motorhome’s battery problem. The mobile RV bloke didn’t respond to my phone message & when I drove into town I realized that, for some reason, all 3 of the cigarette-lighter plugs must also work off the coach batteries so my GPS would work on its...

Jul 4, 2017 - Sudbury to Parry Sound

This morning a bloke told me they had more than 100mm of rain over the weekend at Sudbury & the KOA Park here in Parry Sound is also waterlogged. We had some rain in Providence Bay but nothing like what they got in this area. Check-out time in most of these parks is 11:00am & since I didn’t have very far to go I stayed & watched the Wimbledon tennis which starts at 7:30 here, a much more civilized time than at home. Most of the trip was on freeway so there wasn’t much to see. I stopped & did some shopping but will wait & have a look around...

Jul 14, 2014 - Island Queen Cruises, 30,000 islands, Parry Sound, ON

Took the Island Queen Cruises on the 30,000 islands off of Parry Sound for a 2 hour cruise. The ship was quite and smooth…very enjoyable. In the pm, we visiting the “Bearly Used Books” (4th attraction in Parry Sound) and I purchased “Five Shades of Gray for $1.05 CND. We stayed at the marina until 5 pm and then headed over to Starbucks to recharge the PC and use the internet. Overnight at Walmart (2nd night at the same one…a first for us).

Jul 7, 2014 - 30,000 islands

It rained all last night, was rainy in the AM but the campground said it was supposed to clear up later in the day. We almost changed our minds about the boat trip - but decided to take it anyway. Good thing we did. As we started out it was overcast the visibility was low but about 30 minutes into the cruise the sky cleared, the water was so blue and the islands so green and rocky, temps warmed and we spent the last hour on the top open deck where we could see for miles. This was a great cruise and we saw islands that are parks and...

2014 Eagle trip

Jul 6, 2014 - Parry Sound

Weather was great on our drive to Parry Sound, we bought diesel at the truck stop in Waubaushene and got to the campground without any problem. Unfortunately the WIFI at the campground in the area we are in was hit by lightning so we have to go to a cabin or picnic bench in another part of the park to get it. We are in the last row of spaces and just can't get the Dish to work - so we are watching either of 2 Canadian over the air channels on the front TV only as the signal is very weak. The people next to us have a smokey fire going and...

2014 Eagle trip

Aug 6, 2013 - Last night in Canada

This is going to be a long travel day and the weather is gloomy. It reminds us of the weather we experienced a month ago when we were just south of here. We hope it hasn’t been like this all summer here in the east. George is driving 297 miles today, which is predicted to take us 5 ½ hours, a long day for Shelby and Lisa too. We said our good-byes to Lake Superior, and are making our way down the eastern side of Lake Huron towards Parry Sound. Once we arrived at our KOA for the night, we decided to venture out to check out Georgian Bay....

Cross Canada Trip

Aug 24, 2012 - Parry Sound KOA, Ontario, Canada

The drive today was only 150 miles, took about 3 1/2 hours. The scenery changed and then changed again while we crossed over the Niagara Escarpment traveling in a northward direction. We're here for one day of touring as it had been heavily suggested by our hosts in Mt Forest to experience the Parry Sound first hand abosrd the Island Queen Cruise ship. We arrived at the Parry Sound KOA and were met by friendly personnel who were very helpful. We got settled into our site 19 quickly and relaxed from the drive. A few walks around the park...

Jul 3, 2011 - Oh, Canada, part 2

This is actually being posted from St. Ignace, Michigan, but it is about our final day in Ontario. We were 2 nights at a KOA near Parry Sound, Ontario, home of Bobby Orr. During the one day, we took a walk of a few miles along their fitness trail, and then we got on the Island Queen and took a 3 hour boat ride through some of the 30,000 islands in the area. It is absolutely beautiful there. It could be Maine or northern Wisconsin, but it is Ontario. The water was deep (like 200' deep) due to the glaciation, and there were a lot of glacially...

Jul 2, 2011 - Our friend Sammy from Kenya...if you would like to help.

If you have been reading our blog regularly, you will know that we connected with a special friend... Sammy, from Kenya. He has not had an easy life, raised by a single mom with two younger sisters. He told us a heartbreaking story about running away to Nairobi (scary as an adult) when he was 8 and his family thought he was dead for several months before being picked up by the police and delivered back home (several hours away). He is at heart, an artist, but knows that it is difficult to support a family in this career. We have continued...

Jul 1, 2011 - The Blog to end ALL of our Blogs (at least for this BIG trip - stay tuned for 2014/15)

As we draw to the close of our ten months of travel on four continents, we find ourselves excited to be home, to stay in one place for longer than a few days and most importantly, to catch up with family and friends. However, like the day after Christmas or similar to closing the cover on an amazing book, we are a bit melancholy because for four years we have planned and looked forward to this year and now it is over. We have memories to last the rest of our lives, experiences to treasure and new friendships to maintain. We have been so...
