May 25, 2014 - Countdown
Tomorrow is departure day, and I'm down to the last few errands on my "to do" list. The first leg of my adventure will be six days with Aunt Tanny and Monty the dog in Farnham England. For the first time, I'm limiting my luggage to one carry-on sized backpack, into which - incredibly - I've crammed 30 days worth of clothes, first aid stuff, hairdryer, gifts, etc. I took Rick Steve's advice on this, and am looking forward to skipping the lines at the luggage carousels in the various airports I'll be passing through. This is a departure from...Jump to full entry
Oct 6, 2013 - On African soil
Well we made it.. 6:30a the cabin lights were on and we were landing in 2 hours. A little airplane breakfast (pancakes) and presto we are here. Okay not quite yet, but boy did we wish we were. Thankful to get out of the sardine box. We stepped off the plane to (oh no!) no rolling chair and operator.. yikes!! But I saw moving stairs ahead, and eventually we found them! A roll through the Jo'burg airport and onto our last flight to Livingstone, Zambia. We did have a small break in the airport which was a relief. Then back boarding the next...Jump to full entry
Oct 5, 2013 - And off we go!
Sooo early (4:00am) and we were up and on route to the airport in Buffalo for our quick flight to JFK in New York City, we took off a bit late (8:40a) but managed to make up a bit of that time on the flight. I've learned how to travel with Mom on our last trip 2 years ago now to England and France. The airports have this wonderful service where you can request a rolling chair and an operator! So for all of you that don't know, Mom doesn't walk very fast anymore - so these rolling chairs are a life saver (on both of us). They meet you right...Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2013 - Booked and almost packed...
A bit different this round...Mom and I have booked 4 separate little trips, back to back to make a fairly full on tour of Eastern Africa, including Zambia, Tanzania and Kenya. Sent Mom off to get her Yellow-fever shot and we got, well more than, a handful of anti-Malaria medication too. A passport full of visa's and I think we are almost ready to go. Just the packing... try to take only a half full suitcase - anyone that knows us - knows we find some neat stuff we'd like to bring home. If my memory serves me correctly I think the last time...Jump to full entry

Jul 20, 2009 - Almost ready!
Amy and I are almost ready...it sounds like Amy's more ready than Liz! Tied up with motorcycle associations, a car show and one more motorcycle show yet, Liz is falling behind in the preparations - but Amy's on top of it though. Our passports have 2 visa's and off for the last one (Russia). All thanks to Amy (and a little help from Barb and Purolator). That's what next week is for - what to take, does it fit, and most of all - can you lift it and lug it - BY YOURSELF! (always a trick) Only 17 more sleeps until we leave! wowJump to full entry
