Sep 18, 2017 - On train

18/9/2017. Monday. On train We seemed to stop and wait for passing trains quite often during the night. It is basically a single track with lots of side tracks to pull off on, and the freight trains get preference. At some point yesterday, we were 3.5 hours late, and then we picked up some time. Not sure what the situation is now. We have new staff, and they too seem very good. Breakfast at 8am, then with time changes, lunch at 11am and dinner at 5pm. We just go along with 'first sitting'. We're up in the Observation car and we've been...

Jul 10, 2015 - Ontario

Sharon knee is doing well, she had her last PT the other day and has to see the doctor one more time in six weeks. We continue doing the Camping World sale flyer deliveries and promoting Peter’s hydraulic business. Last week I went on a fly in fishing trip to Northern Ontario with my nephew, his son, my niece’s husband and 3 others. The fishing was very good, mostly walleyes averaging 18”. We will be going to the Escapee rally in September and from there we will go to Albuquerque for the balloon festival. I volunteered to work on the parking...

Jul 26, 2011 - Sioux Lookout

Yesterday we left Wabigoon Lake RV Resort around 1000 and arrived in Abrams Lake Resort in Sioux Lookout about 1100. The drive was short, only about 50 miles but relatively slow. The road is two lanes with no shoulder, paved, and is in fair to good condition. The weather was a mix of sun and cumulus clouds and after arriving at Abrams Lake resort we had a couple of very light rain showers. The campground is full and many of the sites are not very level. So you guessed it, our site is not very level. The right hand side of the RV is at its...

Feb 18, 2010 - Sudbury to Siuox Lookout

Day 1: Woke up just past Sudbury Junction and dawn broke near Ruel Ontario. Yes we were in Ontario, literally from 2200hrs Tues to past midnight Wednesday (Sioux Lookout 0056hrs Thursday). No different than a car. It takes forever to get out of Ontario. The same magic that transformed our seats to bunks in the evening provided the reverse while we were at breakfast. Breakfast – amazing 3 choices: always traditional eggs, continental with porridge and a chef’s omlette; fourth different everyday – waffles, pancakes, huge cinnamon bun. We...

Sep 28, 2008 - On the train...still in ontario

Today is Sunday and we are still on the train and still in Ontario. The train travel continues to be wonderful. People are friendly. Food is fabulous - soup, salad, entree and dessert. All are fit to serve in a very high class restaurant! When we are not eating we stare for hours out the dome car windows at the country passing by. Ontario is gorgeous. The leaves are red, yellow, orange, purple, gold as wellas green and brown. We also play scrabble, read or watch videos. Today there is a souvenir shopping extravaganza where the activity car...

Sep 4, 2007 - Gone...

When the gas in my tank Feels like money in the bank Gonna blow it all this time Take me one last ride For the lights of this city They only look good when I'm speeding Gonna leave em all behind me Cause this time I'm gone -- Gone - Pearl Jam So far it's been a great session, some great waves and great experiences - but it's time to paddle out and catch another wave... when I left NZ 18 weeks ago (!?!?) this trip seemed so difficult to conceptualize, there were just too many aspects to fit into one cohesive thought. It was just too hard to...
