Sep 4, 2019 - Toronto

September 4, Toronto, Ontario High of 72 Drove to Rough Hill Train Station, (Go Train) and had a 30-minute ride into Toronto about 9:30. Boarded the City Sightseeing Bus (a hop on, hop off). First stop was CN Tower, Canadian National Railroad Tower built to be a tourist attraction and it worked. Went to the observation floor which was 114 stories high. Took pictures and felt our balance was “off” and thought we could feel a little movement. The next floor down was the glass floor which was even more disturbing to our sense of balance. Got...

Aug 28, 2019 - New York to Canada (All Narrative + Toronto Map Holder)

We left Rochester, New York (and suburbs), but not before my Aunt “arranged/pressured” my cousins into throwing us a going away steak BBQ. I definitely have the best aunt/cousins and I love them all dearly. I can’t believe that I was dumb/lazy/stupid enough to let almost FORTY years go by without any contact with any of them. I don’t deserve the love they have shown us over the recent years. My brother called to invite us to a spaghetti dinner the night before we left. How could we refuse? My sugar count (Yeah, in addition to everything...

Jun 9, 2019 - Pretend castles - puh!

We had a slightly less hectic day today but still managed to fit in quite a bit. Our hotel, the Westin Harbour Castle in Toronto, is situated in a fabulous position - right on the shore of Ontario Lake harbour. We have a great view from our room and plenty of cafes and restaurants very close by. After an early breakfast, Cheryl and I went for a bit of a walk around the harbour area right near our hotel and then booked a harbour cruise for later in the afternoon. By 8.45, the group was on the bus and ready for a couple of morning activities-...

Jun 8, 2019 - Driving on

After an enjoyably relaxed morning of walking around Ottawa, we were on the bus at 11am and on the road again. To while away the two hours until we reached our lunch stop, we listened to some Canadian music and watched a very interesting video about the Thousand Islands. In an effort to edumacate you, here are some terribly interesting facts (don’t skip them as there will be a test next time I see you!): * The Thousand Islands are situated between Ottawa and Toronto. * There are actually 1,864 islands. * To classify as an ‘island’ it has to...

Feb 13, 2019 - Toronto Airport

Leaving in the midst of a Storm. We headed down to Toronto a day early so that we could take our time. As we drove from Perth into the storm it was a little eerie with no cars on the road. It felt like we were the last ones on earth. I guess we were crazy to start off with the storm warnings, but in the end the drive wasn’t bad and we arrived at our hotel befor the freezing rain started. We are sitting in the airport waiting for our flight to Buenos Aires that leaves in 5 hours. Boring!,,,,, Write to you later when more interesting...

Feb 2, 2019 - Toronto departure

After a week of snowstorms and digging out from under the weather, both literally and figuratively (both Lisette and I were recovering from bouts of the inevitable winter 'flu) we were excited that the departure date was upon us after months of planning this mid-winter get-away. It all started with a phone call from our friend and travelling mentor, Trevor. He made us an offer we just couldn't pass up after virtually enjoying all his intervening travels since we spent an awesome fortnight together several years ago on one of our most...

Dec 1, 2018 - Toronto (In Transit)

@@@@@@@ KAPOORS ON THE ROAD Unfortunately, we arrived in Toronto at Terminal One on Austrian Airlines and departed from the same terminal on Air Canada. In between we had a 6-hour lay over. We weren’t at all concerned when we booked the tickets because we had access to the business class lounges and thought for sure we would be comfortable. We checked out the Air Canada Maple Leaf Lounge first and though it was spacious, the furniture looked like it was on its last legs. The leather on the seats was split on many of the chairs, and the...

Nov 14, 2018 - Panama bound

We started early. Somehow when travelling the night before we fly neither of us sleeps well as we are worried that we will miss our flight. We were pretty much ready to go by 4 am. The shuttle was ordered for 415. When we got down to the lobby at 4 the shuttle was ready to go sooff to the airport we went. We arrived at the airport by 415 and had to wait until 5 am for the ticket agents to show up. We found a chair where Barry could plug in and not use any battery power. At 5 am an announcement was made that the ticketing system was down...

Nov 13, 2018 - Had a great sleep

Although the hotel was less than spectacular we did sleep in until noon. This is the first time I have done that since I retired. My body obviously needed it. Thank god the restaurant next door has all day breakfast. We pretty much chilled the whole day. I never got to the Toronto office, by the time we were done breakfast it was almost 2 pm. I also had only a light coat which was far too light to be wandering around in. It was quite cool in Toronto. Because airports are so stressful given Barry’s breathing problems we decided to request...

Oct 31, 2018 - Start of a new journey

It might be a little late to start my trip journal since I have left Japan in April, but later than never! I will record my previous trips some other time. Today, I leave Toronto for Calgary, as my first stop of my two-week trip. It was nice working in Toronto and I already miss all my friends I made here. But with the adventure awaiting, how can I stay? So here I go with my heavy suitcase!

Jul 2, 2018 - Pingu goes to Bell Island

We got up in time to grab some complimentary breakfast but the dining room was full so we took it back to our room to indulge. However, we didn't get out until past 10:30am with plans to first do a hike at the northern most point of the Avalon peninsula of NL at Back Cove. As luck would have it, I inadvertently entered a NS address into the GPS and it was almost 30min of highway driving before I realised we were going in the wrong direction (heading toward Gander!) and got off the highway slowly making our way back to the second planned...

Jul 1, 2018 - Canada Day, 2018

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!! We slept in and got off to a lazy start on our first day in Newfoundland. After taking a walk with Pingu in the neighbourhood, letting him sniff and mark every interesting spot until he was shooting blanks, I got back to find sleeping beauty stirring. We eventually got our act together and headed into town to find something open for breakfast... which was quickly turning into brunch as it was now past 1pm! As we drove past several closed establishments, the Bagel Cafe caught my eye but the menu board on the outside...
