Oct 4, 2012 - St. Jacob's Farmers' Market

We are in Ontario at a special time of year. The annual Kitchener/Waterloo Oktoberfest begins Friday, Oct. 5 for 10 days. There will be plenty of beer and German food vendors, we were told. A section of King St. will be blocked off for the event. Kitchener was settled by Germans and was oiginally named Berlin. After World War I, however, the name was changed to Kitchener. The Canadian Thanksgiving Day is next Monday, Oct. 8, so many businesses will be closed, including Roadtrek. Farmers' markets are popular, and we were encouraged to visit...

Oct 20, 2011 - Rain, more rain and some bad news

It certainly knows how to rain over the last 24 to 48 hours. We must have had at least 2 inches of rain and the wind has been quite strong. Saw on the TV that the storm had brought down trees. Found we had a small leak on the bedroom slide-out but this time on the otherside to where we had the problem. On investigation we found there was a hole and tear in the cornerof the rubber. Tony has done a tempory repair but will need to get that sorted in the next couple of weeks. Over the last few weeks we had noticed that although bright Jenny's...

Oct 17, 2011 - A quiet period ahead

After a week at Brighton KOA we are now at Green Acres Park at Waterloo- Kitchener spending a month here till we head south into America for the winter. We have discovered that the UK Importation of Dogs Regulations have been substantially altered wef 1 January 2012, making in much easier for us to organise if we want to for Jenny to return with us to the UK. At nearly 16 years old it is very dependent if she remains well. At the moment her lymph nodes in her neck are enlarged and appears to have lost some weight. We will be taking her to a...

Sep 18, 2010 - Rain, rail and politicians !

After our visit to McPhails we based ourselves for the rest of the week at Green Acres RV Park, Waterloo. On the Thursday it rained heavily all day (Good news bedroom slide-out did not leak!). In the morning we went to the St Jacobs Farmers Market and got completely soaked. We had to change shoes, trousers etc we were that wet! In the afternoon we joined Ross and Penelope on the Waterloo Central Railway. Ross acts as a volunteer on the railway which runs between Waterloo and St Jacobs on Tuesdays (summer only), Thursday and Saturday. The...

Jul 21, 2010 - A week in Waterloo

We spent a week in the Kitchener/Waterloo area. The main purpose was to say hello to our friend Ross but also to have the bedroom slide-out leak looked at by McPhails of Harriston. We had first met Ross and his wife Bernie when we stayed at Green Acres in Waterloo four years ago and had met up on the road several times. Unfortunately Bernie had died from cancer just over a year ago. She was an excellent artist and we are pleased that we have one of her paintings in our coach. McPhails when they did a water test found two leaks on our...

Aug 15, 2009 - Waterloo, Ontario

August 14 – Friday Another sunny day in Ontario and a lovely day for a drive along Ontario highways. We hadn’t made reservations for camping tonight so our day started with making phone calls and successfully making reservations at a campsite in Waterloo. We found out there is a car show in New Hamburg this weekend and all the campsites are getting filled up. Driving south from Parry Sound along the east side of Georgian Bay provided for more amazing sites - more lakes and beautiful scenery. As we got south of Barrie we saw large fields of...

Oct 26, 2008 - The night before launch...

Well, we are busy packing the last few items and plan to hit the road at 8am tomorrow. The weather may be a bit damp but we hope as we head south, the weather will clear up and give us some great weather for our 5 hour trip along the Blue Ridge Pkwy travelling through Virginia and North Carolina. We have never been on this windy, mountainous road but hear the lookouts give some incredible views. Will post some pics after we arrive in South Carolina. Ciao ma familia!

Oct 14, 2008 - In The Beginning....

Well, on this Election night in Canada, I decided to set up this journal while enjoying the returns. We have had quite a busy year so far with a number of local trips and are now looking forward to our month long trip through the southern US. It will be great visiting family in SC and then heading through several flood damaged areas including New Orleans and Galveston. We still have a few weeks to prepare so more updates to come as the launch date gets closer.

Apr 20, 2007 - Maiden Voyage to St. Jacobs

Our first trip took us to the St. Jacobs area. We stayed at the Green Acres Campground in Waterloo. It was a beautiful warm weekend. We toured the Elora Gorge, St. Jacobs Farmers Market, and the Elmira area. The Mennonite farmers were out planting their spring grain with horses. Sunday we passed a Mennonite church. There were horse and buggies everywhere. Our new trailer was nice, and we truly enjoyed ourselves. We had a delicious lunch at the Old Mill Inn in Elora overlooking the gorge with our friends Willy and Marisa.
