May 18, 2017 - Buffalo Pound to Regina

I didn’t have far to go today – just about 100 km but the first 35 km was over a very rough road so it was slow. I’d booked into an RV Park on the east side of Regina & was hoping to find a parking place somewhere near the centre of town so I could have a look around the capital of Saskatchewan. I found a good 2 hour park on a side street near the museum & not far from the Legislative Building which is what I wanted to see. It’s a very impressive building, one of the largest legislative buildings in Canada, & was the vision of...

May 6, 2017 - rural roads

Okay, so maybe ALL black roads are good roads……….and we have learned that in Saskatchewan NO black roads are good roads! Plus the scenery would undoubtedly be the same from the Trans Canada that it is from the secondary roads. It is the same 10,000 acre farm…………just from the back on the secondary and the front on the main! One 45km road we drove took us about 75 minutes to drive as at several points in time we were going about 20km/hr. There are sections of frost heaves that you could lose a semi in, so slow is the order of the day! From...

Sep 20, 2016 - Regina, R & R

- - We got up and drove about 2 hrs and checked in at Kings Acres RV park for $42, and the internet crashed on the second day! The condition of this park has gone down hill, due to poor onsite manager, and with too many construction workers, who work on the hwy construction. There is 2 channels on TV antenna. - Sept 21, Wednesdays We drove to town and went to the Roughrider store, spent a few dollars there. We checked out the parking for the game, and we are definitely taking the FREE city bus. WE went to the RCMP Heritage Center & museum...

Jun 16, 2016 - The Prairies

Drove from Thunder Bay on Wed June 15 to Kenora ON. Cool and rainy weather, through Fort Frances to Kenora. At times we were alone on the road to admire the northern terrain, lakes, woods and rock, even beaver lodges near the roadside on the lakes, amazing. Lake of the Woods is beautiful. Thursday, June 16 we crossed into Manitoba - took 3 days to get out of Ontario! Crossed Manitoba in 6 1/2 hours, lots of construction. Weather cloudy and cool until into Saskatchewan, windy and warmer. No wildlife seen, but also no roadkill!. Tonight we...

May 30, 2016 - Regina, Saskatchewan

We lingered around this morning and didn't leave Brandon, Manitoba until 11. As I was cleaning the windshield this morning I saw this bug (pic), it was a big one. It was quite a hit around camp with everyone wanting to look at it and trying to guess what it was, ha. I showed the picture to the lady at the visitor center and she was sure it wasn't native to Canada and must have come up from the USA. She was a hoot. I asked her how to pronounce Regina and she said it sounds just like fun - .....vagina! I bout peed my pants, ha! The farmers...

May 22, 2015 - Vacation by car and hotels - Regina SK

This vacation is because I asked Jane what she wanted for her birthday on May 24th. She replied that she would like to travel West to see more of the prairies. This trip is completely spontaneous, we have made no plans at all. We had thoughts of just heading to Regina SK for the week. But things turned out just a bit different, then we thought. Read below to find out what really happened. This morning we got up earlier enough to drive Jane to her volunteer position at Deer Lodge from 9 AM to 11 AM. It is her job to care for a few elderly...

Jul 14, 2014 - Regina, Saskatchewan

Here is the thing about Regina, it seems to be a city that understands that visitors don't come here and has accepted that and are not even trying. hahahaha It is sad but I see it here everywhere. I am glad I came to see but this province is not for me, maybe too much like Alberta(And I don't think that province is for me either). So I have now seen and spend time in every province in southern Canada. This brings about an end to my travel wish list. I used to think that I wanted to see the north east of the USA in fall but I have learned...

Jul 3, 2014 - catch-up time

Monday, June 30 It was a cold, windy and wet introduction to Canada! Tom fought gale force winds and rain all day to get us safely to Regina by 6:30 PM.. The hostess at the Saskatchewan Visitors' Center told us parts of Regina were flooded and closed by the weekend rains. Arriving at the campground we were told a spot was available. However when we tried to pull into the spot it was flooded on both side so we couldn't even get out of the RV without stepping in water. Looking around Tom found that the electrical & water connections were...

Jun 3, 2014 - Craven, Saskatchewan

Tues., June 3rd – We made our way to the Canadian border at Portal where we had both RVs and trucks thoroughly searched by the customs officials. We were happy to see them still smiling when they returned our keys and sent us on our way. The terrain finally changed to a few rolling hills along the quiet two-lane stretch to Regina, Saskatchewan. We drove right through the busy downtown in another rush hour ordeal. We were glad to get to Hwy 11 where we made our way to Craven RV World Campground. Diesel is now over $5 per gallon in US...

Jan 30, 2014 - Testing Technology

Hello all, I have just sent out an email to those who may want to opt in to our trip journal updates. I can't say how much we will be filling it out, but I am hoping it will be the main form of communication with everyone. Two more sleeps, Simon will finish school today and not be back until March, and I have four hours of work left. We are all so excited. I'm not sure if you are able to leave comments on this site, but if you are, please do. Maybe that will convince me that this really works. Pam

Our flight back to Regina was at 6:50 am the next day so we were up early and were back in Regina around 8:30 am. The holiday was now over, but what a fantastic holiday it was. We really enjoyed it and knew that it would be hard to get back in the mood for work.

Sep 6, 2013 - The Longest Day

We awoke early this morning in excited anticipation of our up coming flights which would take us to Venice Italy. Our first flight was from Regina to Calgary with departure around 12:30,m John was so excited he had the idea we should be at the airport at least 3 hours prior to departure, so we arranged for our son-in-law to pick us up at 9:30. Now this was a bit early as there is not a lot to do at the Regina airport. We passed the time having a coffee and reading our books that we had brought for the trip. Soon 12:30 arrived and we were...
