Oct 5, 2014 - Day 10 Saturday

Great sleep again. Awesome brekky again too. Then off to Great Wall of China. It took longer than expected through traffic and only had 1hr there after 1.5hrs driving. But, can I say, superb and a wonderful experience. We walked up the hill a bit then took a cable car to the top and walked along two Watchtowers (13 & 14). Cable car awesome and wall just magnificent views. Not as good as from Great Wall though. There's enough material to build a wall around the world 1m high and 5m wide. No wonder it is a wonder of the world. Lea and I did...

Much better sleep here. Beds softer and comfier. Brekky here at the Traders is the best as well. Much more Western on offer. Still stuck to Western. Lol. And cold juices here. Yuummmm. Off to Summer Palace first. The Summer Palace was so beautiful and massive. It also had long walkways between each palace structure with beautiful paintings. We had a short tour of couple palaces and heard stories of the 'Dragon Lady' who was the evil decision maker behind the Emporer and her times as emporess. There was a lake in the middle of all and we...

Oct 5, 2014 - Day 12/13 Monday/Tuesday

Last day and flying home. Got woken this morning to Lea not feeling well and needed to go to doc from the fall. Her head was sore and hurting with a cut. Was frantic and confusing to all but org'd with teachers that I would take her to docs and we would meet them all Beijing airport for flight to Shanghai and then home. We had time so wasn't too bad. A bit panicky and tour leader didn't help much and teachers more unhappy that it was the day going home and stuff, but ya can't help bad luck. The doc next to hotel wouldn't treat foreigners...

Sleep was good. Brekky was awesomondo again. Love the bacon and egg sang as and juices..They do double fried eggs. Lol. Very western. Hehe. Went to temple of heaven. It was nice but not much to do. Just a temple surrounded by walls and small temples each side. Still brilliant but getting used to seeing temples and palaces now. Lol. The walk in the park to it was better and lots, I mean lots, people playing card games and a footsy type game with a feathered weighted thingy. We tried but not so good. Lol. Beautiful park. We did a tea ceremony...

Oct 4, 2014 - Day 8 Thursday

Up this morning early again for a western brekky (bacon eggs) and then a 1.5hr bus to Shanghai for an airplane to Beijing. At the airport after check in, we got called to baggage inspection for a problem and it ended up being Lea's bag, cos of a clicker for mozzie bites. Lol. The police carried machine guns here. The plane trip was ok but same processes as international. Noticeably the roads are wider in Beijing, mbikes had their own lanes and seemed busier with newer cars. Taxis are Hyundai's and newer than Shanghai's. We saw Ferrari's,...

SEP29: Shanghai Our last day is a free day, most chose to go down town shopping. After breakfast, our guide, felix, took us by way of the Shanghai subway to 2 shopping districts. At the first one some of us went into a 4 story building called “Hancity fashion & accessories Plaza” which was like an indoor mall. It was filled with very small shops selling cloths, jewelry, watches, luggage, and electronics to name a few. We spent 2 hours in there. The sales people were very aggressive and you had to bargain the price. They would start out...

Sep 28, 2014 - Shanghai day 2

SEP28: Suzhou & Tongli After breakfast, we travel by motor coach to the fabled water town of Suzhou. Suzhou is often referred, by the Chinese, as the "Venice of the East". It is a 2,5OO year-old city renowned the world over for its traditional gardens, ancient canals and silk worm production. But what we saw on the way in was industrial parks of one manufacturing company after another. Although Suzhou has many canals, I thought it was more like Amsterdam than Venice. In the heart of the city, our first stop was at the home of a retired...

SEP27: Shanghai After a late wakeup call (9am) we met at 10 am for a bus ride into the heart of the city, the Bund. The Bund is the waterfront district. The Huangpu River separates old town Shanghai on the west side from the new on the east. The east side, once rice paddies, is now the Pudong district with high rises including the iconic Oriental Pearl Tower. We walked along the west side promenade for about 20 minutes taking in the view. Back on the bus, we visited the Pudong district on the other side of the river. We rode the elevator...
