We left Marsabit at 6am and after 50km or so of rough road we hit the bitumen again and had a straight run through to the border. We all placed bets on how long the border crossing would take, from the time we got off the truck on the Kenyan side to the time we got going again in Ethiopia. I was in charge of timing as I have a stopwatch on my phone. I also chose the longest time (2 hr 40 min) as I know how long these crossings can take. Well, we sailed through the Kenya exit in around 25 minutes, then about the same for entry into Ethiopia...

Jan 25, 2009 - Drive from Omo Valley to Konso & Visit to Konso Village of Machekie

We left the Kaske Campsite on the outskirts of Turmi in the morning and spent the morning and early afternoon en route to a village populated by the Konso people outside of the city of Konso. The drive was a fascinating one, as we drove through what was very rural countryside. Initially we drove past a number of Hamer villages, with local Hamer people strolling along the road on a regular basis, clad in their traditional clothes.
