We enjoyed a leisurely morning at the Kaske Campsite before we left at around 10 a.m. for Dimeka, where we visited its market. The Hamer and the culturally similar Banna people come there from the surrounding countryside to sell their wares, produce and livestock, making this an interesting market to observe. The market definitely made for a fascinating visit, given all of the colorfully dressed Hamer people plying their wares. Jan 23, 2009 - Visit to Villages of Dasanech & Hamer Peoples

In the morning we drove to Omorate, a city close to the border with neighboring Kenya. Omorate itself is a grubby dirty town with little to offer tourists other than the fact that it is the gateway to the settlements of the Dasanech people who live along the Omo River. Upon our arrival we walked to the bank of the Omo River. With its muddy brown color, the river was not particularly scenic. Jan 22, 2009 - Journey from Jinka to Turmi

We spent much of the morning in transit from the Rocky Campsite on the outskirts of Jinka to the town of Key Afar, where a weekly market of the Hamer people was set to occur. After strolling around the market in Key Afar, which seemed only to be really getting underway during our visit, wandering for a bit through the town itself and eating lunch there, we got back into our SUVs and continued on our drive to Turmi.
