Aug 4, 2018 - Paris to Amsterdam

This morning everyone was up early as we had to have ourbags out at 6:45 am, after breakfast we checked that our luggage was out and then set off at 8:00 am on the coach to Amsterdam. We surprised everyone by wearing our Red European Escape 2018 t-shirts. We were definately noticed, everyone thought they were a great idea. We went out in the country side heading North with a French tour guide - who had the loveliest of accents but giggled a lot, we stopped around 10:00 am for a comfort stop and morning tea and then it was onto Belgium for...

Aug 3, 2018 - Paris, The Louvre and farewell to Paris

This morning after another wonderful breakfast we got ready to go on our Tour of the Louvre although it was only half a day - we did get to see some of the wonderful pieces of art and sculptures that the Louvre has. To do the Louvre properly it would take you a year or more to have a good look at every piece and artifact stored there. Our guide was a wonderful man who had studied art and he took the time to explain to us what the artist was trying to say in the work, we saw a lot of religious art that was to be expected of course, he also...

Aug 2, 2018 - Paris Bus Tour and The Moulin Rouge

This morning we had a lovely breakfast at the Hotel before setting off to do a bus tour of the city. Although we had been on bus tours on our first days in Paris this one was specific for APT, we did see a lot of what we had seen previously, but we did stop at the Eiffel tower and got another close up view from the other side - alas it was closed due to a strike - in relation to the online ticketing system that was causing longer line ups. What is it about us and strikes!! We stopped for coffee at a little cafe right near Napoleon's Tomb at...

Aug 1, 2018 - Paris APT - Joining the tour

This morning we had a lazy morning - packing the bags and cleaning the BNB. We had Brunch at our favourite Pub/Restaurant Bolivar for our final meal. After a wonderful breakfast we headed back to the unit to finalise packing and waiting to meet Sandrine to say au revoir, and get the cab to the hotel to join our tour. We managed to get to the hotel (Hotel Collectionneur) without any drama, no crashes, no fires and no strikes. There we met the lovely Evelin our cruise director and went to our rooms, unfortunately we will be missing one of our...

Jul 31, 2018 - Paris - Doing our own thing

Today we decided to do our own thing in gay Paris. We started the day on the Metro and headed into the city centre, we have booked for a tour of the Notre Dame. Although the cathedral looks very similar to the one in Riems, this one does have its own stories and history. Notre-Dame de Paris (Our Lady of Paris) is one of the largest and best known churches, it is of the Gothic style with 2 bell towers, it has been ransacked and parts destroyed over the centuries and rebuilt and is currently having restoration work done, in the 1800's Victor...

Jul 30, 2018 - Paris - Riems Champagne Tour.

This morning was an early start as we were picked up at 7:20 for our small group Champagne Tour - Stephanie our tour guide was a lovely lady! There were only 6 of us on the tour and we learnt a lot about the Champagne making process. The other couple were from Atlanta Georgia, USA. They were a lot of fun! The drive to Reims takes approximately an hour and a half, and it is lovely countryside, we did see the turnoff to Eurodisney, we did not end up going as Tracey has hurt her leg...... not enough alcohol!! We arrived at Riems and the first...

Jul 29, 2018 - Paris - Hop on Hop off Bus tour

So this morning we got up and showered and then set off for our adventure for today. We went back to Cafe Bolivar for breakfast and then went to see if we could conquer the Paris Metropolitan.... We caught the train to the pickup point for our Bus tour - the only thing was we were going to miss were 2 points of interest due to today being the completion of the Tour de France - but matter not - we would do the best we can. We saw a lot of old Paris, including the Notre Dame, Musée d'Orsay, by-passed the Champs-Elysées and Grand Palais (near...

Jul 23, 2018 - Day 7: June 24, 2018

Day 7 began with a huge performance, and was truly the culminating experience of my Masters Degree! Today was the day we performed in the Holy Mass of Notre-Dame! **NOTE** Due to larger photo files, I have uploaded Day 7 pictures into a photo folder on my Google Drive. Copy and paste this link to see photos of the performances in Notre Dame!** https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1VkiPrKTQ-GDarssOpoy3yKq_SLuHurDf?usp=sharing We loaded up the bus from the hotel around 9:00 am in order to warm-up as a choir, approximately an hour before...

Jul 14, 2018 - Paris—End of Week

On Thursday Pastor Chai arranged to take us on a road trip to the little town of Noyon. Apparently, in the 10th Century, Noyon was a larger city than Paris boasting a much larger Cathedral with a much more important Bishop. Today, it feels like a sleepy town with a few interesting sites to keep tourists making a stop along their way. For us, Noyon was simply the birthplace of John Calvin, probably the most significant French Reformer, barely escaping the massacre of Protestants in Paris and fleeing to Strausburg, then onto Geneva,...

Jul 11, 2018 - Paris. Again

On Wednesday, Pastor Choi took us to meet a couple that are here in Paris with the IMB. They serve to support Baptist ministers who are here. We had a great lunch with them. Kind of fun to talk American. Afterward, we went to see the Pompidue Center. It is a bizarre cultural center designed by an Italian Archetect who apparently thought French people belong in hampster tubes. It was closed. We went to an ancient church called the St. Germaine Church. Apparently, the priest here were slightly more open to the budding French Reformation....

Jul 11, 2018 - Paris—ATI Class

On Sunday, David and I got on the road early. The drive back to CDG airport was uneventful. We turned the car in. Unfortunately, I had 10 days to throw stuff in every conceivable corner of the car. I had never taken my suitcase out of the car, figuring I was never going to be any place long enough for it to matter. So, I had dirty clothes thrown all over the boot. David was kind enough not to laugh outloud at me as I pulled all my junk into the Hertz parking lot to get it repacked for the short subway ride into town. We found the...

PK to Europe 2018

Jul 10, 2018 - Day 6: June 23, 2018

Day 6 of the trip was scheduled for “free time on your own,” so it became a “choose your own adventure” day! The morning certainly started off with a mini-adventure as I attempted to access my few years of high school French to help me navigate into Paris. The train station closest to our hotel was closed for the weekend as part of the Paris train strike, so I learned how to navigate the Paris bus, train, and metro systems that morning in order to meet back with my parents and aunties for our day of museum touring! Before any touring could...
