We have not been in the habit of waking up or getting up early over the last month and a bit (or so) but this morning we were both up and about well before 7am. I expected a feeling of melancholy but I think I was able to clean that away through the act of cleaning the van yesterday (some kind of rite of passage perhaps) and so, although we are a little sad, now that the day has come we are looking to start the next phase of our trip and are quite excited by it. We have decided that we will try to use as much of our food supply as possible...

After the debacle of yesterday, something that thew us both a little after considering that we were pretty ofay with getting things done by now, the thought that we did not have to go anywhere today was almost appealing. What put the almost into the sentence was that this is the last full day in the campervan. We have loved this part of the trip. And have become very attached to our little wohns mobile home of the last two months and two weeks.. And almost also because today we have to clean the camper from top to bottom. There is in fact...

Aug 5, 2008 - Germany (Campingplatz Unterbachersee – Düsseldorf to Campingplatz am Entenfangsee – Mulheim an der Ruhr)

Using the notes mentioned yesterday, today we head off in search of a camping ground that is in Mulheim an der Ruhr. If our calculations are right we should be less than half an hour from McRent thus making it much easier to return the van clean and on time. We are glad to be leaving Unterbachersee. The place is okay but it is obviously a place where a lot of permanent rigs are set, and thus there are families and screaming kids and dogs and the whole thing one would expect from a small village. The camp staff are not at all friendly or...
