Oct 14, 2014 - Day 2 - Bridge of Rio Antonio
Our adventure continued after lunch with a drive across the Rio-Antirrio bridge. It's a toll bridge that was ready to use for the 2004 Olympics in Athens, the torch bearer was the first to cross it. I was unable to get good pictures, but it's an amazing bridge. Here's some info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio%E2%80%93Antirrio_bridgeJump to full entry
Jul 22, 2013 - Olympia to Patras
We left the campsite about 11am and drove the couple of kilometres to the Ancient Olympia site. There is a big carpark here for all the tour buses and it was quite busy. We bought a combined ticket for the archaeology site and the museum for €9 each. We spent a couple of hours walking round Olympia, the site of the ancient Olympic Games, which was also a sacred area and a sanctuary. It once contained temples, monuments, theatres and administrative buildings. The pamphlet guide was very helpful and there were information boards around the...Jump to full entry
Jun 18, 2012 - To Patras Ferry
Monday 18/6/12 Ferry to Pireaus, 11k bike to bus, 3hr bus to Patras, manic 5k ride to ferry! Had a fairly comfortable journey and sleep on the 7 hr ferry. Nickie woke just before dawn and went up on deck to watch the sun rise up over Turkey on the horizon. What a beautiful sight. We miss Turkey, what amazing people and landscapes. We have enjoyed Greece but the Greek people haven’t been so forthcoming and “interested” in us. Maybe it’s because here is a touristic place and even with our bikes we aren’t so “unusual” . Maybe the greek folk...Jump to full entry
Jun 6, 2009 - Patras, Greece.
I arrived at Patras ready to depart on the 5th of June because I thought it was the 6th. The more I travel the easier it becomes to get the days and dates confused at times. I had an awesome time in Greece and my next country that I'm travelling to is Italy.Jump to full entry
Jun 3, 2009 - Patras, Greece.
I decided to travel to Patras or near Patras earlier than expected. Just because I was in Athens and I hated it actually. When I stayed in Athens I was living in the Junkie/ Herion area of Athens and it was loud and noisy and also i had been sleeping with an Athens woman that I met and I don't think she wanted to see me again so I left early and was really happy with my decision. I like peace and quite more often than lots of noise and disturbance. Athens is great but only worth visiting for a few days maximum in my opinion.Jump to full entry
Feb 16, 2009 - Day 4 - Corinth - Epidaurus - Patras
Day 4! Another busy day! Today we checked out of the Hotel Crystal City in Athens and got on the road in our bus. It was a sunny day, but still pretty cool. We made it out the door of the hotel on time. Our first stop was at the Corinth Canal. We were able to stand on a little bridge right above the canal. The canal connects the Aegean with the Adriatic. I was surprised to find how narrow and deep the canal was. Not good for people afraid of heights! Then we drove up into the mountains and into Corinth. We stopped at an archaeological site...Jump to full entry
Apr 30, 2008 - Hello from Patras
Hello from Patras! Well, its been an adventurous past few days, to say the least! Since I last posted, we spent another day in Athens exploring the Acropolis up close (along with 5000 of my closest friends :) We met some other young travelers at the hostel, mostly kids who are wrapping up their studies abroad. Amazingly, I met two other girls from Monterey who have been studying in Florence and Paris! It's such a small world! Anyways, we all went out and explored the nightlife in Athens that night, and since we had to catch an early boat...Jump to full entry
