Sep 11, 2018 - HBR: CROSSING; Gouvia Marina to N. Othonoi Island, GR (12p. to 7:15p)

Good Morning — well this is going to be a long day. Our very first day of crossing. Readying Milena took Jacques, Marina and Christian all morning. While each of them were working .... Nelson.... he was hanging.... (pic) The first thing that had to be done, was cleaning, hoisting and storing of the dinghy on Milena . I think the pictures I have taken will show you just what an ordeal this is. (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) (pic) It is not 11:30a.m., and Milena is pulling away from slip: P-19 at...

Sep 10, 2018 - HBR: Gouvia Marina, slip P-19, D/D leave, crew Christian arrives

Boy, I must admit, seeing “frost or fog” on my refrigerator mirror startled me. (pic) Moving topside, I see that Marina has set such a nice table for Denise and Dennus’ lastbreakfast on the boat. (pic) (pic) (pic) Denise, Dennus and I, along with Marina were all set to go to Old Town at 9:30a.m. ...... But where is Jacques?? He and the dinghy are gone! Oh no.... I am thinking, when will he be back. (pic) (pic) Oh, that is where he was. I take full blame for not reminding him that we wanted to go to Old Town. By the time he returned,...

Sep 9, 2018 - HBR: D/D; Gouvia Marina (Denise and Dennus last full day!:-( :-( )

Good morning. Today the three of us hurried thru our bereakfast, so we could get to the Achilleion palace before it got too hot, or too crowded. Unfortunately today was Sunday, and by the time Jacques drove us to the palace, there were 6 huge buses blacking the entrance, and a very long line at the ticket window. Denise and Dennus got the tickets, as I was leaning next to the iron gate, using my cane as a prop, and standing in the shade. It only took about 20 minutes before we had our tickets, and followed the anxious crowds thru the gates....

Sep 8, 2018 - ANC/HBR: D/D: Lakka, Paxos to Gouvia Marina, Corfu

In the middle of the night, I was awakened by flashes of light, as they streaked by my pillow. Turning over, and looking North over the stern of Milena, I saw a rather large electrical storm brewing off the South of Corfu, and moving Eastward toward Parga, and mainland Greece. Carefully I listened for thunder — because then I know our time would be limited here..... now where would we go.... I would have to leave that up to Jacques. This was at around 1:00a.m. — by 4:00a.m., the rain had begun tapping on the shade covering the deck. Is the...

Sep 7, 2018 - ANC/HBR: D/D: ANC/HBR: Nydri, Lefkada to Lakka, Paxos

Goo morning. Milena got a very early start today for a couple of reasons. — Ftrst: the traffic and potential lines (wait time) at the canal could be substantial. — Two: Probably more important. There is a storm coming through later today that is suppose to center itself on this part of the Ionian islands. Very good reason to make ourselves scarse. The quickest way to get to Paxos is using the internal cruising along the East side of Lefkada in a northerly direction. At the Northern tip of the island is a channel (or canal) that leads to...

Sep 2, 2018 - ANC: D/D: bay by little chapel Vlacherna and ANC. Gaios, Paxos

Good morning breakfast.... Yes, this is us enjoying the beginning of another beautiful day. (pic) After breakfast, Milena pulled up anchor, and left for her daily travel to the island of Paxos. (pic) . The waters were smooth, the sun warm, and reading a great pass time. (pic) (pic) Our 5 hour run seemed to be over much faster.... as I looked off the starboard side of the boat, and watched us slowly enter the area of Gaios, Paxos. Milena is too big to tie up to the lengthy, and somewhat shallow pier, so anchoring is the only option....

Sep 1, 2018 - HBR: D/D: Gouvia Marina to ANC around corner from little chapel & airport runway

Jacques and Dennus began their day early with a trip to the fish market, to select the bestest fish for the culinary pleasures of Milena and her very special guests. After about an hour, Jacques and Dennus returned beaming with their treasures. (pic) . Jacques had a few more things to do before we could leave. The “just hanging” day began for Denise and Dennus with a relaxing read in the aft cockpit. (pic) . (pic) . Milena is now ready for her departure. Denise and Dennus picked their preferred spot for our departure — so they are now...

Aug 31, 2018 - HBR: D/D Gouvia Marina (Denise/Dennus arrive 8/31 to 9/10)

We all slept like babies last night. In fact, all three of us overslept. I blame it on the cool comfort of the air conditioning. I was the first one up and moving, which is a rarity. Jacques is always the first up, and working before I stick my head into the salon. Breakfast was the best ever..... (pic) With Nelson at my side, let the day begin. (pic) Meanwhile, Milena had some pump issues which should be corrected. From what I can gather, it was more of a maintenance issue, as opposed to a mechanical failure. (pic) Along with the...

Aug 30, 2018 - ANC bay opposite Gouvia Marina to HBR Gouvia Marina

Early morning awakens to such a peaceful and beautiful setting (pic) (pic) (pic) Our trip was so brief, but such beautiful scenery. (pic) , with their own swimming area and private dock..... ahhhh... such a life for them. Today we left our lovely little spot early, for the 20 minute crossing to Gouvia Marina. Gouvia Marina is such a lovely spot for Jacques to winter Milena. He seems to be very happy with this marina and the services they can do for Millie. He is planning on “....wintering her here again next year.....” **** As we amble...

Aug 28, 2018 - ANC “OldTown” Corfu

Good morning. Today we left the harbor of Gaios a little before 10:a.m., and began our Northward journey back to Corfu. (pic) . Our Northward travel along the Eastcoast of Corfu, was quiet, and lovely in gently rolling waves, which could quite easily lull you to sleep. The sun was hot, and there were very little breezes for this daily excursion. There was a lovely m/y lazying making its way up the coast with us, until all of a sudden he made a stage left, and disappeared around a corner. (pic) We arrived at the small little bay just South...

Aug 27, 2018 - ANC Gaios, Paxos (day #2)

Good Morning to day #2 in Gaios. The weather has been playing havoc with us all day. The dark clouds over head, the possibility of rain, and yet nothing until just after lunch..... the skies opened up, and we got deluged. Boats were scurrying from everywhere, and trying to huddle up and wait out this storm. (pic) (pic). In this pile of boats seeking shelter, was Sherwood’s beauty. Mr. Sherwood, now older and retired, used to owner the Oriental Express trains, and a string of upper crust hotels. He sold off everything, and now his son has...
