Nov 26, 2014 - Lucknow

November 16, 2014 Finally out of Delhole. It’s 8:30 AM. Having chai along side the highway. I had to get bidies too. I escaped the clutches of Delhi without incident or asking for directions. I am not sure what time I left the hotel. I woke at 6:30 AM. Late. But it was OK. There was still very little traffic. I was BS’ing with a local and he asked me if Suukyti was a BMW. Yes. He then points across the highway. Low and behold the BMW shop. I thought I was out of Delhi. I didn’t see it! I will turn around and am going to BS with those guys...

Nov 15, 2011 - Luck by Tuk Tuk

I awoke at 5am to the loudspeaker delivering the morning call to prayer. I waited until 8:30 when breakfast was available and had two paratha's with a cup of coffee. Here at the Homestay when you are finished eating, you wash your own dishes! Naheed, the owner told me she has been in business for eight years. She has twelve rooms and some of her clientele are students from the U.S. in Lucknow to study Urdu. Urdu is a language that is related to Hindi, but has special importance in Indian poetry and literature. Naheed arranged a city tour...

Nov 14, 2011 - My LuckNow

I arrived at the Lucknow airport today around 1pm and made my way by taxi to the Lucknow Homestay. It's a bright day with a haze of pollution hanging overhead. Like Delhi, there are no blue skies here. My expectations weren't high when I reserved at the Lucknow Homestay and I'm not complaining, but Mother Teresa might even comment about the homemade bed of a two inch foam, atop a sheet of plywood. The bathroom is another story.....Actually, I find the contrast between here and my palatial digs in Kolkata to be quite reflective of India....

Mar 8, 2005 - Lovely Lucknow

So, after Amritsar, we headed off to Lucknow, the site of the great Mutiny of 1847, and one of the last holdouts of the Muslim Empire in British India. Not many people have much to say about Lucknow other than Dalrymple, but we found it to be amazingly enticing for a few reasons, and awful for a few others. We arrived in the city by train from Amritsar, and headed by cycle-rickshaw to the hotel of our choice. I have see nicer public bathrooms than the hotel room we stayed in, but apart from the ample mosquito populace, it was clean and...

We're having some trouble with the food here - it's not like Tikka Masala as we know it, lets put it that way. So as we passed through Lucknow (state capital, pretty boring city) we were on the hunt for western food. Next came one of the most shameful moments of our lives when we went to Pizza Hut!! But we're not sorry, it was amazing, clean, delicious and a sweet reminder of home. Greg claims it was becuse he was ill but maybe that's just an excuse. Either way, it did the trick!
