Apr 17, 2017 - 5 days without civilisation

5 days without any internet, laptop,iPad,phone, any technical stuff. We had nothing else but talking to each other... let me tell you first how the idea of this trip came. The story is: Before we came here, I put a post on Facebook,in a group called Meeple if anyone knows anyone in Indonesia who could take us around without only seeing the tourist attractions. There was a girl who gave a contact to a local guy who does tours time to time. His name is Ricky. I've contacted himand we had a few emails back and forward until we agreed...

Dec 25, 2009 - Jawa Barat (West Java)

“Can you tell me where I find arrivals hall 2E?”. Olive’s airplane left Friday 18th December 3 hours late from Amsterdam because of snow, which as it turned out was nothing because that weekend hundreds were stranded for the night, and was now announced to arrive 20.15 on Jakarta’s Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. “What plane are you waiting for Sir?”, the information girl asks. “Turkish Airlines 66 from Istanbul via Singapore”, I tell her. “Then you have to go that direction to 2D”. “Your screen says 2E”, I try again, pointing at the...

Jan 12, 2009 - Puncak

Zoe, a friend of Arie's , had invited us at guests to stay at her villa in Puncak, a village in the hills just outside of Jakarta. Spectacular place, all open-plan living and beautifully designed in lush gardens with fresh water swimming pool. The sort of place people would pay thousands to stay in for a luxurious retreat to the mountains. The weather has been particularly bad and it was rainy and hevay with mist, so we didn't quite get the full advantage of the views from up here. Thought at one point that we might get stuck here as the...

Feb 28, 2006 - Indonesian Sortie

The mini bus had no shocks. We both have sore butts. Nevertheless, we were in Bandung by noon (why the hell did we have to get up at 4:30 am, I'll never know!), and we've had the afternoon to look around and wrap up some postal stuff and E-mailing. This in itself was a chore. This is not a backpacker friendly place - just a big smelly place with 2 million people in the streets. Hotel is marginal - good it's only one night. It took us hours to find an internet place and only after asking around. Still, after everything we've heard about...

Feb 26, 2006 - Off the beaten track...

Every dream seems to be about a helicopter. For nights I can't seem to put my finger on it. I start thinking that maybe I'm starting to think all Apocalypse Now considering we keep heading deeper into Asia. Then I decide to try and focus on it for a night to try and figure it out. There I am, lying in bed, slowly my eyes are getting heavier.... There it is, the helicopter! Then I'm off into some wild long dream, only to fall out of it first thing in the morning with the last thing I can remember being the stupid helicopter. This time I told...

Apr 15, 2005 - Indonsia/Bandung

When we were flying over Indonesia it looked soooo green and beautiful, the roof tops of the buildings were all red and many places had pools beside them. Things from the plane can be very deceiving though.......................... When we landed the plane it was a little different than from what we saw in the air. The city of Bandung was a lot dirtier from the ground. Don't get me wrong, it was still VERY green and lush looking, but amongst the beauty was a lot of rubbish, old buildings and unfinished streets. The traffic was back to a lot...

Apr 10, 2005 - Bogor

Jan 31, 2005 - Meleka, Maylasia: Singapore: Jakarta, Yogyakarta, & Cipanas, Indonesia! I'm a little behind!

Hello everyone! Sorry it has been awhile it has been a crazy week. Dad and I are in Yogyarta, Indonesia right now. Let me do a quick update of my travels before I met up with Dad. I went to Meleka, Malaysia after K.L. I only was able to stay there one night becuase I had to meet Jerry in Singapore the next day. I had fun though. The owner of the guest house that I stayed in took me out with him. We went to one of his friends bars to have a few beers and play pool. The man is 60 years old and he drank like a college student. I could not get...
