Dec 29, 2010 - Lounging in Sesto

Today was all about relaxing ahead of our touring holiday. We had a bit of a sleep in and then wandered around the market (yes, it’s Wednesday again!). Barb and Zoë bought some more clothing and some presents for NZ, and then we stopped for a hot drink. Despite the snow and rain having cleared it is still bitterly cold. After a little more walking around the market we picked up some pastries for lunch and retired to the apartment to rest and prepare for tomorrow’s departure (catch up on laundry, charge phone/camera batteries, etc). Dec 28, 2010 - A Day in the Snow

Following on from last night’s text planning, Giuseppe invited us to join him and Laura for the day. So it was a quick scramble out of bed to get sorted, then Ron sliced his thumb with the bread knife whilst getting breakfast. First aid got put to good use and then we managed to get to Giuseppe and Laura’s around 10.40am, where we piled into our car and made our way to Santa Maria Maggiore to go tobogganing in the snow. Dec 27, 2010 - Back to Sesto Calende

Another lazy start and at 9.00 am we joined Jani, Maya and Daniel for breakfast at the usual place (Café Bianca) and had the usual coffee/hot chocolate and croissant marmalate. It was a lovely sunny day, which was nice to see after all the overcast days we had had since being in Boves. After breakfast we picked up some replacement supplies for the apartment, tidied it up and packed our gear. Ron and Zoë then went to Jani’s to get the car. As some of you will appreciate, getting a car from under a blanket of icy snow is not easy – it was a...

Dec 21, 2010 - Out and About

Ron and Barb were up early this morning and just after 8:00am, took a photo of the view. Today was overcast and we noticed that the snow was starting to melt. After a slow start, we jumped into the car and drove to Switzerland to look at an Outlet shopping mall. We stopped along the way to take some photos of a cemetery, looking quite lovely in the snow, and some of the shrines that you see dotted around in the most random places by the roads. It took about 40 minutes and using the Tom Tom (GPS) we got there with no problems and had a quick...
