Sep 30, 2019 - Day 10 Firenze

We promised ourselves a chill out day today so most of the team slept late. I was up earlier than the rest and went to the supermarket to buy some goodies for breakfast and general snacks. The chocolate cluster cereal wasn't a winner so I found something that resembles a weet-bix. They went down quite well with everyone. We set off late morning to find the Disney shop. J and G were both keen to buy things as gifts for others and possibly something for themselves. Jenni and I decided to leave them to it (with instructions not to go anywhere...

Sep 28, 2019 - Day 8 Levanto to Firenze

We are on the move again today; off on the next part of our adventure. Our visit to this area has been far too short however, it's either see fewer places for longer times or more places for less. I'd love to come back to Levanto for a longer period...it doesn't have to be to live however a month or so would be nice. I wouldn't want to leave Buddy for any longer than that (I'm assuming Pete would want to come too). I had another restless night with Joe...he's still coughing and got up once to close our bedroom window even though we had the...

Jul 22, 2018 - Firenze

We arrived in Firenze on the 17th and took a taxi to Duccio’s home where we have the downs stairs appartment for 5 days, it didn’t take long to get there, when we opened the gate we realised it was a large Neo liberty style home!! Incredibly quirky !!! Once unpacked we worked out how to get to the coop and grabbed a few necessities. You know the usual!! Champagne 񅃲 񏍾.... etc had a relaxing night out in the garden.. but got eaten alive by the bloody mozzies!! Any way it was lovely.. we spent the next day doing our washing and relaxing.....

Europe Holiday 2018

Oct 8, 2015 - Florence Panorama,

Another early start had us walking to a bus terminal to catch our transport for today's walk. One of the many nice features of this trip is the variety of transports we have used. There is no bus at our beck and call, instead we have used private taxis, trains and local buses as well as walking of course. It all helps us to appreciate the country, its people and its institutions so much better than from a seat in an air conditioned bus. After a thirty minute ride we arrived at a hilltop village of Fiesole which is now an outer suburb of...

Oct 7, 2015 - Lucca to Firenze

After an early breakfast we walked to the Lucca railway station and boarded an intercity train bound for Florence (Firenze). Since we were near the beginning of this line we had no trouble getting seats but needed to use others for our luggage. This later proved to be a pain for other passengers because by the time we reached Florence there was standing room only. Maree and I are amazed at the amount of stuff our Canadian travellers are carrying. Two big and two small bags each as well as backpacks. I suspect that they want to have...

Oct 5, 2014 - Lucca visit colleague KPMG and Florence soccer match

We had organised to meet a former work colleague of Frank from KPMG Breda, Raymon Keijzers and his family. When we had the reunion a few weeks ago in Breda, it came up during conversation that he would be in Tuscany at the same time as us and if possible, we would try and catch up. Frank texted him and he was delighted to show us Lucca. The only 'condition' was that Tom and Luke could watch the Rugby League grand final at a pub or somewhere where there was wifi. We found his place in Lucca OK with the car and had a drink before heading off...

Sep 22, 2014 - Italy – Firenze

We awoke refreshed and went down one floor to the breakfast room. And what a room – absolutely stunning. The ladies went their separate ways in groups of interest and eventually around 11am I wandered over to the Ponte Vecchio taking photos and taking in the sights. I was amazed at the number of people, and group tours everywhere! I made my way to the Duomo and Tower and the stopped by at the Cafe 900 for Mushroom & Gorgonzola Risotto and a glass of Pinot Grigio – ahhhh this is heaven. On my way back to he hotel I bumped into Doris and...

Sep 21, 2014 - Italy – Bonassola to Firenze

It was very sad to leave Bonassola and the Hotel Delle Rose but we must This time the bus company sent a shuttle to pick us up rather than wind the huge bus around the hairpin curves. Shortly after 9:00am we are on our way to the Pisa Airport. Nancy, Ellen, Caroline and Judy are off to Vancouver and we will miss them – Arrivederci ladies, and safe flight! Once the gals are through security, the 7 of us catch a bus to Florence and arrive a short hour later. From the Stazione we walked for approximately 15 minutes and arrived at the...

Sep 14, 2013 - Italy, how could anybody not enjoy the ambience of Italy?

Who doesn't just love Italy? The people, their sense of humour, the history, the ambience, the food, the whole experience, just love it to bits. We've had a great time in Florence, a beautiful city, easy to get around and easily enjoyed. We joined an entertaining free walking tour of this handsome city and then climbed the famous 414 stair Duomo dome for wonderful views over the city, immediately followed by a climb up the bell tower, just because it was there. I reckon I am now definitely able to kick start 2 boeings at once, one with each...

Aug 13, 2011 - Under the Tuscan Sun!

Hey Folks! Sorry I didn't post yesterday we were insanely busy and I lost track of time... As for yesterday we got to see the David made by Michelangelo and the Duomo which is a HUGE church in Florence. Afterwords we had an amazing dinner on the other side of the river and finished off the evening with some amazing gelato. Today, we got up really early and went on a Tuscan hike. We were able to see all of Florence. Along with the hike, we got free lunch, wine, and a tour of this huge villa dating back to the 1400's. Also at the villa...

Aug 11, 2011 - Firenze forever, hello Florence

Today, we left our hotel in Rome early and trekked to the train station. We had our first train experience and boy was it confusing... We only made our train by two minutes. Luckily some nice Asian woman helped us. If she hadn't helped we would've missed one of the only trains running to Florence (usually they leave every half hour but a bunch of the regular trains were broken). Luckily, we left so early that we were able to get in a super long line and make reservations for one of the high speed trains. When we got to Florence we went on...

Jun 6, 2011 - 14. Castel del Piano to Firenze

Day 23 Castel del Piano to Siena After a dampish night we wake to a sunny morning. We descend from our mountain top camp-site and then start a series of ups and downs which go on all day. Many of the ups have gradients between 12% and 14% but these are fairly short however it does become wearying after a while. We stop at another delightful hilltop village called Montalcino for a coffee and then decide to explore the town. There is an old 12 century fortress right at the top. We wind our way through the village past people setting up for a...
