Apr 26, 2019 - Melaka to Johor Bahru

26 April – Friday It is still raining heavily when we get up, that is going to make for a nice drive to Johor, not. We meet Shelley for breakfast, and again we are feeling spoilt. There are a few others in the dining room, but none have a table set like we do – a white linen cloth, cloth napkins, crockery and cutlery all set out, two waiters standing by to take away dishes the instant they are finished with, to keep our water and coffee topped up, and to bring our plates of food from the buffet. We even have a large plate of pastries, and...

May 16, 2012 - Tioman Island, Malaysia

We took a bus from Singapore to Johor Baru (?) and spent our first night in Malaysia in Mohammed's Hostel which we knew about from our Lonely Planet guidebook. Thank goodness for Lonely Planet! We got some food- Nasi Goreng for me, local food of course and it was good. Rice, a piece of fried chicken, little fish, nuts, a fried egg and red sauce. Mix it all together and voila. Malaysian food is good and cheap, 2 things I like about a country. Then we woke up early and went to Tioman Island which was very Jurassic Park-esque. It was a huge,...

Mar 21, 2012 - MALAYSIA!

So everyone I know it has been a very long wait but here is... Malaysia! This wasn’t a country that we planned to travel but after reading around we decided to do our diving course there as it was really cheap and the visibility is as good as Thailand but without the crowds. We first headed to Kuala Lumpur (thought rude not to go to the capital!) we stayed in china town the first day trying to get there from Singapore was a nightmare a 2-3 journey ended up taking us 12 hours!! Grr. We were the only tourists on the bus and we stuck out...

May 2, 2011 - Back in the USA

We arrived at San Francisco airport in the afternoon of April 27. It was wierd to leave Singapore and arrive at SFO on the same day. We were suprisingly greeted at the airport by our families holding signs. We couldn't have asked for a better homecoming. After having an early dinner with our family, we said farewell and spent the night at a hotel near the airport, we weren't quite ready to end our bike bumble. The next morning we got up and put our bikes back together and headed over the Santa Cruz Mountains to Half Moon Bay State Park....

Sep 24, 2009 - Pulau Tioman

Sept 24 - 28, 2009 Pulau Tioman is situated off the south east coast of Malaysia. It is scarsley inhabited and is lush with jungle. There are few roads and to get from one village to another, you either trek or take a water taxi. Basic accomodation and eating out are pretty inexpensive...therefore more can be spent on banana pancakes and ice milos:) The best day was our full day excursion where we chartered a boat to take us around for a full day of sun, water and trekking. It was a bumpy ride first thing in the morning and I was pretty...

Apr 7, 2008 - Monday, April 7 On to Malaysia

First, Jim and I love getting your comments!! Just to let you know, I had tons of trouble with the internet in Singapore and tried several times unsucessfully to load the pictures. They are all saved and will add them when I can. Right now I am in an Internet Cafe on a small island in Malaysia called Tioman. (will also send a picture of this technological shrine!) The computers in here look like the ones we had in 1990. Also, the pictures are on Jim's laptop. There was no internet available yesterday but I am hoping to have 30 mins here...

Mar 21, 2008 - I'm 22!!!

I was up bright and early this morning to celebrate my birthday, away with my friends. 4:45 the alarm went off. I had a quick bite to eat and then left with two of my roommates Max, and Dave. We walked to the bus station where we caught a public bus to Johor Barhu, Malaysia for $2.40 SGD. As we approached the boarder traffic slowed dramatically and we came close to a stand still. So the logical thing in our mind… we got off the bus and walked lol. An experience I’ve never had, walking across the boarder. I felt like I was doing something...

Mar 12, 2008 - Malyasia

Nov 15, 2007 - Singapore and Side trip to Malaysia (Johor) and Back to Bangkok

Singapore is a very modern and clean city. Singapore has a lot of vegetation and green around the city. It provides a city "park setting." Singapore has several islands around the edge, including Sentosa island. We left the hotel and took a cab to Sentosa island. Sentosa island is a "manufactured" island that provides several tourist activities. We bought two tickets for the glass bottom cable cars to ride from Singapore over to the island. The cable car ride was cool, we headed over the sea to the island and took some good photos. The...

Sep 8, 2007 - TIOMAN ISLAND

Caught the bus from KL on saturday 8th to Mersing to catch a ferry to Tioman Island. Coach ride was horrible (too long), then we had a wait at the ferry terminal before getting on a 3 hour ferry ride. Arrived on the island late so couldn't get to the resort we had booked. (Basically it's at the other side of the island and you can only get their in the day time by 4WD, you can't hire one like a taxi, you just have to ask a local to take you). Stayed in a flee pit beach hut (or shed as Brad called it) and then we moved the next day to a new...

TRIP OF A LIFETIME!

Nov 3, 2006 - Singapore

SINGAPORE - Saturday 28th October - Tuesday 31st October (Day 1-4) Hoped for an uneventful 12 hour plane journey to Singapore which Gill had prepared for by swallowing a number of pills. However, had a bit of a false start when the truck pushing the plane backwards so it could taxi for takeoff got stuck in first gear. It couldn't be unattached from the plane and we had to wait for engineers to arrive who discovered it had ran out of oil. Gill was starting to get a bit nervous. We ended up sitting on the plane for 2 hours before being able...
