Jul 14, 2017 - Cambridge in New Zealand?
Today we left Middle Earth for a much more normal sounding place. What would normally take an hour from Matamata to Rotorua took us over five hours courtesy of a change of buses and a 150 minute wait in a random town called Cambridge. It's the first Cambridge we have ever been to despite being around 17,000km from the actual one people have heard of! In truth we didn't have high expectations about Cambridge, on trip advisor there is about five things to do and our host last night commented that Cambridge has a few nice cafes and that's...Jump to full entry

March 12 Tongariro National Park is renowned for the Tramps and shorter trails throughout. Around Whakapapa Village there are lots of short ones. Chris started his day by going for a run through some of the trails that took him through scrub to older forests, past waterfalls, over lava and back again. Then we took two lifts up the ski resort where we had an amazing view ofmthemski hill and far beyond. In one direction, you could see the other two mountains in the park and beyond to Lake Taupo. In the other we could see acros the scrub flats...Jump to full entry
Oct 19, 2011 - Rain,sunshine and 9 holes of golf!
This morning we had a bit of a lie in. We woke up at about 8 and then had an hour or so Skype session with Nick and Ali. Very difficult to organize Skype sessions with such a vast time difference between countries. Today is a chill day as both Colz and I are pretty poked by all the travel. The weather as well today is not so great so we went and did some shopping with Colin and Heidi at Kmart (like a game but bigger) in Hamilton. They were shopping for a tent to go camping as well a birthday present for Cayde. We ended up wandering around...Jump to full entry
Oct 17, 2011 - Colin Heidi Cayde and home cooked food!
This mornin we woke up and said our goodbyes to Jamie and Grace and Lucas ( his 5 yr old twins) which were apparently miracle kids as they were prem having been born at 24mths. He was an absolutely amazing guy and hope he comes to visit SA so we can repay the hospitality. We then went for a quick take away coffee and then hit the road to take Alex to pick up his hire car. He got a yellow VW lupo which looks like a Mickey mouse dinky dy car! Qite funny. We made a quick stop at the south Auckland caravan park to visit the toilet and dump out...Jump to full entry
Jan 19, 2009 - " Rotorura, Resting and Relaxation"
A nourishing breakfast of muesli, bananas, two boiled eggs, a peanut butter bun (yummy) and I left my Lake Taupo home. One of the many benefits of traveling in Tui 2, is the ability to stop in many picturesque spots along the roadway, and spend the night,or just enjoy a meal. This has been a big savings, both in the accommodation area, and the ability to prepare my own meals. A few of you have suggested, perhaps Helmut's days are numbered, and he is soon to be replaced by a fancier model. Perhaps, at some point this might occur, but as I...Jump to full entry

We woke up this morning to the best pancakes either of us ever had. "Bon Apetit" is actually doing a story on Colleen's Pancakes. She makes them like my Grandma used to - basically frying the edges in butter. Makes them very crispy!. We had a 10am date with the Kaituna River. Home of the highest rafting waterfall drop in the world - almost 22 feet! We drove about 20 minutes to meet our rafting guides - Steve and Paul - and a couple from Scotland also on their honeymoon joined us (they got married 7/28) - after about a 2 minutes crash...Jump to full entry
