Dec 26, 2017 - First time to have wi-fi
Obviously the picture label pirhna fishing is a catfish!, i have tried to change it twice! I give up! The Amazon is amazing. While on the water looking for birds and wild life, the misquitos were not bad. But during our jungle walk, they were thick. But my Craghopper insect repellant clothe did the trick. No bites! We have seen dozens of hawks, terns, kingfishers, ospreys, caracara, swifts, swallow, etc. but the little long nose bats were really cool. We saw a 3 toed sloth the first day! We did fish for pirhna. Frank and I did not have the...Jump to full entry
Jun 13, 2016 - Machu Picchu
We visited Machu Picchu for 2 days. We arrived in the afternoon and had a hike throughout the ruins. The day was very sunny and our pictures reflect the beauty of the mountains. Hiking throughout the ruins was somewhat difficult because of the elevation. We were easily out of breath climbing the many, many stairs throughout the ruins. On our second visit, we had rain, and the rain cleared sufficiently to hike throughout the lower part of Machu Picchu. The morning was very foggy, as you will see from the pictures. I thought the pictures we...Jump to full entry
Jun 9, 2016 - Lima to the City of Cusco
So we left Lima and flew to Cusco very early the following morning. The elevation of Cusco is higher than Lima. We took a day trip to the city square and a convent, but road along the countryside and was able to experience the beginning of the Sacred Valley. It is called the Sacred Valley because it is the one area where growing crops have always been successful. The right amount of water and the right amount of sun, with areas of very rich soil. You will see the statue of a guinea pig which is what they eat here in Peru. We will have an...Jump to full entry

A basic breakfast at my hotel I get a taxi to the train station to get my tickets for the train to Machu Picchu was a very long slow moving line took all most two hours to pickup my train tickets I had already booked and paid for them online. Took taxi back to main square and watched a parade the place was filled with people, then a walk around the area, a stop for some lunch back to hotel in afternoon had some rain making it a bit cool so just kicked back, waiting for my massage, which was great. Worked on packing my bags leaving them at...Jump to full entry
May 21, 2016 - on the road to Cusco
Spent the night in Puno was a cold night did a little work on my travels then down for a very basic breakfast of coffee, bread and some jam, out for a walk to the square and setting in the sun warming a bit. Back to hotel and finish packing my bags, checkout of hotel and got picked up on small bus then off to other hotels to pickup the rest of the people traveling to Cusco. Then on the road to meet our big bus in Juliaca, the bus is coming from Arequipa, changed bus there and the off to our lunch stop, a quick lunch then back on the road to...Jump to full entry
Sep 20, 2015 - Going 5 miles to get 1/2 a block...yi yi.
Sunday. It was nice to have no urgent reason to get up and get going today! We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast and then decided to go find the Museo de Historia Regional so we'd do something kind of constructive with our free day. Ah, best laid plans.... See the pciture of the map (#7 I think) to follow along. According to the map, the museum was #12 (toward the top of the map with the ?? next to it). Here's how that whole thing went: 1) Left our hotel to go to the Plaza de Armas (the big circle) as the museum was beyond that. At the plaza,...Jump to full entry
Sep 19, 2015 - A Day in Ruins...literally.
Saturday. Ow, ow, ow, oooowwww....my legs are killing me from those stupid gnat bites. I'd post a pic but it's horrifically gross; the small bites have spread out to bright red "planets" all over. The skin has tightened up around each planet so everytime I move it hurts. elise's friend, Doug, visited Machu Picchu a couple of years ago and says his bug welts lasted for weeks...I can't handle that!!! I've coated them all with Neosporin tonight so hoping to see some improvement in the morning. You can tell who's been to MP already just walking...Jump to full entry
Sep 18, 2015 - Moving on to Cuzco
Friday. Today was a bit of a wasted day in that we had almost all day free until we needed to be at the train station at 4:50pm. We had tickets to return to Machu Picchu on our own but we decided that we didn't feel the need to do that. After breakfast, we checked out of the hotel but were able to hang around the lobby as long as we wanted. We walked down the steep hill to the town square to see if there was something we wanted to do but as soon as we hit it, the biting gnats attacked! We'd sprayed with insect repellant but it didn't last...Jump to full entry
Aug 21, 2015 - Cusco...
So our trusty driver met us at the train station station and transferred us to our beautiful hotel in the cultural heart of Cusco, the Monasterio. As you can well guess this hotel used to be a monastery but was converted to a hotel during the 1960's!! And joy of joys it has a bath, which is the one thing I have been hankering for since we came on holiday!! So ditching the dirty hiking socks, pants and boots, I unashamedly wallowed in a bath... It was late when we arrived, but we wanted to explore a little. We left Toby , who apparently...Jump to full entry
Aug 12, 2015 - From the Amazon to Cusco....
And so on Tuesday morning we said goodbye to our little lodge in the Amazon, boarded our boat back to Puerto Maldonado and after a very very short stop at the butterfly farm - photos on previous entry, we checked in for our flight to Cusco. Flight unfortunately was delayed about an hour due to "weather" in Cusco, but thankfully when we were airborne it was for only about 40 minutes a very quick up and down, where our in-flight service was one sweet!! In Cusco it was wet and cold - we just don't seem to be getting this weather right, but our...Jump to full entry
Jul 9, 2015 - Leaving Peru and the Girls :(
*Ooo ouch, perhaps one too many rums last night but it was so fun. We went on a walking tour of Cusco with the hostel today - to be honest we have been here over a week now so seen most stuff and a lot was closed due a bus strike. But it was nice being out in the sunshine as today is my last full day with the girls. Also taking in the sights of people selling random things from Pineapple to brooms, the bustling artisan market and loads armed police about. As well as So many crazy dogs here I honestly can't get over the amount and they just...Jump to full entry
Jul 8, 2015 - Back in Cusco, leaving the tour, relaxing and partying!
Woohoo I did it - I loved it every second in fact even the millions of stairs! At breakfast everyone was still realing from the past few days. We had to say goodbye so some of team which was sad but Sophie, Hannah, Maive, Naimh and I are all going to the same hostel. The Loki - I have been recommended this one. To get to the Loki you have to walk up about 50 steps, my little legs truly hate me. We went for a walk around the town, having a sandwich and smoothie in the sun and .... Relax. I have one week left of travelling and I intend to...Jump to full entry
