Our drive today takes us from Kruger in the Low Veld at 450m to Graskop in the High Veld at 1700m. We drove through Mpumalanga province, rich farmland where all the fruits, vegetables and nuts are grown. Once on the High Veld, we visited the Potholes at the confluence of the Blyde (Happy) River and the Treur (Sad) River) in the Blyde Canyon. This area has a connection to the Voortrekkers who were on the move to reach Mozambique over the mountains and get away from British rule. Jan 15, 2008 - Scenic Drive From Hoedspruit

After a nice breakfast from our cute kitchen we left Hoedspruit at 8:45 am. Highway #527 heading west from town gave us fantastic views of the Drakensburg Mountain Range. Mango orchards lined the highway and were ripe for harvesting. Very pretty! Curio shops lined the highway as well once we passed the tunnel and the Abel Erasmus Pass with its highest point being at 1242 meters. To take the more scenic route by Blyde River Canyon we had to turn onto Highway 532, which took us east and then south to the small town of Graskop. The view points...
