Aug 29, 2019 - Day 16. Thursday. 29/8/19. Chobe Water Villas to Johannesburg...in air

Day 16. Thursday. 29/8/19 Kasane to Johannesburg....in air` Up early for 6.30 breakfast so that we could say goodbye to the 7 who left at 7.30 to go back to Victoria Falls to get a 1.45pm flight to Johannesburg and onward and one couple going to Zambia. We left at 11am to get a 2pm flight from Kasane to J’berg! Normal ritual - stamp out of Namibia- fortunately the boat driver took our passports and ran up the sand dunes, then the shoe cleansing ‘foot and mouth’ dip and stamp into Botswana - also had to open ports and take shoes out to be...

Goodbye Namibia!! Purely a travel day today. There is no point going into Windhoek's centre this morning as there is nothing to see, so I'm taking the time to get this journal up to date. Transfer to the airport in the early afternoon, then a flight to Johannesburg Very stressful travel day

Aug 15, 2019 - Day 2 - Thursday. 15/8/19. Perth to Johannesburg to Cape Town

Day 2. Thursday 15/8/19. Perth to Johannesburg to Cape Town Yesterday was a long day. We flew out of Perth at 5 past 12am (2.05am Bne time). This is a long flight, and we both had a couple of 4 hour sleeps, so that’s not too bad. Just after take-off, we went through rough weather and the plane was rattling, going up and down and sideways, the captain announced no hot drinks to be served. It’s morning now and people are waking up and breakfast should be with us soon. Johannesburg is the quickest airport we’ve ever passed through. Picked up...

Had dinner in the hotel and then to bed early. Wednesday 17th April 2019 Sydney to Hong Kong Up early and caught a shuttle to the International Airport, then checked in for the flight to Johannesburg via Hong Kong. The flight was about an hour late leaving Sydney but we arrived in Hong Kong pretty much on time. The flight to HK was uneventful with no turbulence and we...

Feb 24, 2019 - Day one

We have arrived at our little oasis just off the end of the airport runway. Yes, both statements are correct. For a while it was quiet, but an hour ago they must have changed runway or runway direction, and now we are in plane-spotters' paradise. But we are a spot of green in a suburban jungle with pretty trees, a small pool and a hammock I collapsed into, and I have had a nice look at an African Paradise Flycatcher. Is a long flight down here, though better than the flight from Newark when we had to wait 4 hours for inspections after the...

Oct 7, 2018 - Bon's Travels - Near JoBerg Airport

Text from Bonnie: "Just arrived at Dove’s Nest after a Long day it seems. This is a real splurge ... thought about doing JoBerg Backpackers and had actually sorta decided “well why not try it” until the bus drove into the city a different way than before - longer - and that did it ...All I ever need to see of JoBerg! Haha! Walked thru the street market to the train station again, had a helper - who of course wanted, and I’m sure Needed! - Baksheesh as before, arriving just about 5. Got ticket, Track 8 or 11. Went to 11, proceeded to wait...

Mar 7, 2018 - Johannesburg

14 Johannesburg We arrived in Johannesburg a bit later than we anticipated. We were picked up by two girls from the Airport who whisked us through security, customs, to the priority baggage carousel, and right past all the people who were having their luggage x-rayed. We were outside as fast as we could walk, and our driver was there within minutes. He was chatty and we had a nice ride to our hotel, The Saxon, which is in the north part of the city. We had dinner reservations somewhere, but decided that we would rather stay at the hotel. It...

Jan 31, 2018 - Lions, cheetahs and trains!

A 90 minute coach ride took us from Victoria Falls into Botswana and to Chobe. Chobe is the name of the Game Reserve and the river which later down its route becomes the Zambezi. Our hotel was on the bank of the river. We arrived around midday and spent the afternoon relaxing roun the pool for the following morning we were up at 6 for our first game drive. This was a little disappointing for the lack of animals, but we did see a couple of lions, a giraffe plenty of impala and numerous unusual birds the names of which I’ve forgotten! The...
