We left the island of Ko Samui and took a ferry 15km north to Ko Phangan. Its known for its Full Moon Parties on the southern port, so we went up to one of the island's quietest and prettiest beaches, Haad Yao. Ko Phangan is a mountainous island with rough roads, rocky cliffs and wild jungle. It does not have the infrastructure that Ko Samui has so it is difficult to explore the whole island on scooter (hiking boots, a dirt bike or 4x4 is required). We are in the middle of a relaxing six days on the Thai island of Koh Samui at Spa Samuiā€”a new age resort on Lamai Beach. Koh (Island) Samui is the third largest of the many islands in the Gulf of Siam and was the one of the first of these islands to become popular with the backpacker crowd and an early entry in the Full Moon Party rave scene. Over the years the island has been built up and has added an airport which opened it up to a more upscale crowd and a number of classy spas and resorts, although there are still plenty of budget...
