Jun 11, 2005 - London -- Holiday Inn at Gatwick

We awoke right at 6:00am when the ship docked. I slept well, but Kim did not. Today we would have to get breakfast and disembark the ship. Once off the ship, we would have to clear customs. We were easily fooled in this from our last trip. We literally walked off the ship and into a cab, no lines, no waiting and no fuss. WRONG, not this time. There was huge queue of people waiting to get through customs. I asked one of the baggage people about where to go for passengers with disabilities, but he was no real help. He suggested that Kim wait...

Jun 6, 2005 - Brighton - No Big Beach Boutique

In today's quest to get out of London I visited Brighton. Unfortunately no Big Beach Boutique on today. I did check out the pier and its amusements, the eccentric Royal Palace and the Lanes. I liked the sound that the pebbles made as the waves lapped the shore. The Palace was impressive in is extravagance, especially for its day. The kitchen was huge and the sample menu they had was 107 or so dishes of mouth watering delight. I had lunch in this old hotel in the Lanes, the old district. A nice chicken paté followed by lasagne had a glass of...

Jun 2, 2005 - Brighton, that's a nice name...

A week has since passed at my new residence where I'm finding myself settled and ready to begin the most structured and somewhat 'normal' part of my trip. In the search for routine and continuity with work, sport and social proceedings, I spent the first few days getting to know the people that I will be sharing the next 3 months with. Some odd. Some very English. Some cool. I must say I am truly enjoying it, I'm sure everyone says that but I am. I've only just had the time now, to sit and echo how I feel about being in an entirety...

May 1, 2005 - Safe and sound

Hello family et al, I just wanted to let you know that we arrived safe and sound in England (despite almost hitting another plane after flyingin from Glasgow...Nick will elaborate later, making it much more dramatic than it really was). We stayed at Amnesty's for our first night here and are now in the country at Nick's "Aunt" Anne and "Uncle" Tony's not far from Brighton. They are both amazingly funny and the surroundings are out of some sort of Dicken's novel (but no one is wandering around in an old wedding dress). We spent the entire...

Apr 23, 2005 - Brighton

Our first trip to the seaside...they do not do beaches here! This place is fun - very 1920. We visited a magic pub there run by an Irish Fremantle Dockers supporter (we asked the same question..) and the local art gallery which had a Dali piece (?). By the way, those chairs Meg and Skye are sitting on have an amusing video attached - oh, they took some time to set up eh Meg?

May 9, 2004 - Sandhurst, Camber, Rye, Bodiam Castle, Hastings

May 9th saw Rocky and Martin head for the little town of Sandhurst to visit Robin and Barbara, and their two sons Jonathan and Oliver. Robin met Martin's father years ago and the two families have remained friends ever since. What greeted the two Canadians when they arrived was "The Old Priest's House," a house constructed circa 1450 sitting in the middle of carefully tended gardens, as well as two rambunctious black labs, Murphy and Bramble. The house is full of old-world charm; many of its ceiling beams bend and flex with age, while the...
