Dec 7, 2012 - Our New Best Friends, Don and Marti

I haven't done an exact count of all the fire pits and grills but there must be at least a hundred of them. Yesterday was the first time since we got here a week ago that we've had a clear sunny day, the problem is that with all the trees it's tough to find a spot that isn't in the shade. A beautiful clear starry night last what little bit I could see of it, due to the clear skies it is a nippy 34F this morning. This morning I finally finished cleaning all the fire pits at least all of them I could find, after lunch I finished leaf blowing...

Dec 6, 2012 - No Place For A Golf Cart

I took a drive up Ritchey Canyon with golf cart this morning it is a few miles of road cut into the side of the canyon, there were a couple of areas where I had to clear fallen tree branches and rocks, could have used knobby tires and four wheel drive but I did make it to the top it seemed like I had climbed high enough that I thought I might find snow up there. This afternoon I cleaned another 20 or more fire pits, I have about another 15>20 to go before I've made a complete round. We have a new back pack style leaf blower that has been...

Dec 5, 2012 - 15" Since We Got Here

Me and Don helped with making Christmas decorations at the Bale Grist Mill. The Bale Grist mill is an 1846 fully restored and operational grist mill that is a part of the Bothe-Napa Valley State Park. Penny one of our local volunteers and Sandy were the creative minds for the Christmas decorations, me and Don served as students providing the helping hands. According to Penny we had almost 15" of rain from the four storms that came through here in the last week, it seemed like a lot more. After lunch we went into Calistoga to catch up with...

Today is our day off so we went into Napa with stops at CVS and Wal-Mart. The park is a canyon off the Napa Valley floor that is heavily forested with huge redwood, oak, douglas fir, Manzanita, madrone and numerous others that I don't know plus the place is loaded with poison oak

Dec 3, 2012 - Not Up To Her Standards

Rob, Mary and I did up the week end reports and prepared the bank deposit, between the three of us I think we got it right. Mary is still cleaning up around the office trying to get it up to her standards. I finished fabricating the hitch on my cart so I keep busy cleaning fire pits, between the day use area, the group camp area and fifty campsites there are a ton of em.

Dec 2, 2012 - Damn It Is Wet Here

I don't know if we got the 2.5" of rain last night but it sure sounded like it during the night and by the water run offs in the parks it sure looks like it did. Me and Rob spent the better part of the day clearing culverts and redirecting the water run off to prevent erosion, also spent a little time in the tool shed cleaning and organizing.

Dec 1, 2012 - Getting Started

Rained again all night and it looks like it is going to continue all day, the prediction for tonight is a possibility of 2.5" of rain combined with high winds. We met with Sandy again this morning to go over our camp host duties and the paper work involved. They also use Reserve America here but they have what seems to be numerous redundant forms that need to be filled in hand. Mary put in a couple of hours cleaning the upstairs office area where she will be working, I got started at putting a hitch on my golf cart so I can tow a trailer...

Spent another couple of hours this morning trying to find the DirecTV signal, still no luck. Met Rob the maintenance guy this morning and he fixed me up with our golf cart also fixed me up with a 10' pole to raise up the dish, still no luck. After lunch we went into Calistoga to get milk and the hardware store for another 50" of coax cable then the post office to make sure we can have our mail sent to General Delivery there. Of course Mary had to stop at the thrift store, she didn't buy anything but I bought a Dwight Yoakam CD. After...

Nov 28, 2012 - Wandering The Around Woods

Didn't sleep worth a damn last night not sure if maybe it was because I was worried about the big storm that is predicated for today. No fog, rain or wind so by 5:30AM I had everything ready to go at 6:05 we pulled out of Cal Expo, seemed a bit strange to be on the road while it is still dark out. The traffic was already getting heavy but we were ahead of the major commuter bulge and it stayed heavy all the way down I 80 then when we turned off onto Hwy 12 it was stop and go due to road construction until we got to the other side of Napa...
